Magic the Gathering Apprentice Tournament

I have decided that the contest forum needs to see a little more action, and what better way to do it than a Magic tournament?

Magic The Gathering, for those of you who dont know, is an extremely strategy based trading card game. But lets face it, if you dont know what MtG is, than your not likely to do well at all in this tournament. It is possible to play Magic on the internet, using a software called "apprentice". To get apprentice, go to this site:

Dragon Studios
If Dragon Studios will not load, use this site: http://www.mtgparadise.com/~mtgportal/pages/appr.htm
But it doesnt have the Mirrodin set in it. Oh well. I dont like Mirrodin anyway.

Click on Apprentice, then download it. Then download the latest Oracle patch. Then familiarize yourself with the system, and create a legal Type 2 deck. You heard me TYPE 2! In order to create a type 2 deck, just apply the "Type 2" filter when creating a deck in the "Deck Editor."

So, if you download this, or already have it, and are interested in participating in the Great GameTavern Magic Tournament, just make a post saying it, and I will constantly update this post with a list of participants.

There are three formats you can play in: Type II (current cards), Type I (every card ever created), Type II & I (you play in both tournaments.)

Once (if) we have enough, the Tournament will commense.

Type II:
Participants:
Vampyr
The Sly Moogle
Rndm_Perfection
Josh
Bube

Type I:
Participants
StoneCutter
The Sly Moogle
Josh
Rndm_Perfection
Vampyr (I decided I would go through the 1000's of cards, and I made what I think is an awesome Type I deck.)
Bube

If you havent played magic in a great deal of time, and you arent familiar with the Type II format, or if you have never played magic before and are interested in starting, then go to this site: Brain Burst and get a premade deck that you find interesting or looks like fun to play with. But be warned: Its not nearly as rewarding to play and win with a deck built by someone else than it is with your own deck.

I don't like the idea only because it loses the element of possession. I can make the ultimate type two deck.. whee.

But anywho, I think I'll join for the hell of it. It'd be a good way to at least test out decks.

Re: Magic the Gathering Apprentice Tournament

I'll play if you guys do a type 1 or a type 1.5 tourney, but as I haven't played in about 3 years, and have zero desire to read through about 1000 cards to find a decent deck strategy, I really don't want to play type two.

Now, if you want to do a little urzas/mercadian or tempest/urzas block type two, that's cool by me.

Re: Magic the Gathering Apprentice Tournament

Since I only started playing about a year ago, I have zero desire to go through 1000's of cards to make a good deck.

But I'll go ahead and make a seperate bracket for a Type I tournament, and anyone who wants to participate in it, or Type II, or both, can have their names added to the relative list.

But I must say, its not hard to find a Type II deck. If you dont feel like making one yourself, go to Brain Burst and find one already built.

A pre built deck!

Where's the fun in that?

But, using a premade deck is more fun than not playing at all.

I get "host not found" when I go to dragonstudios.com. And I really wanted to play...

The site appears to be down right now...I'll try to find a mirror site. Check this post for updates.

This is apprentice...but its lacking the Mirrodin expansion. I think Mirrodin sucks, though, so you shouldnt need it. :p

Err, Mirrodin is very, very good.
Not having it, you'd be at quite the disadvantage.

Oooh... I love mah lightning greaves.

Its almost entirely about Artifacts, though. Unless you want an artifact deck, Mirrodin is practically useless. That Zombie deck that I just beat you with on Apprentice didnt use Mirrodin, and it beat a Type I deck. So there.

A type one deck that I've never used and relied on a combo that was near impossible to get out, what is your point?

And I'm confused about Mirrodin being useless because it uses artifacts. Artifacts can fit into any deck... they are colorless.

But yes, your zombie deck did use a mirrodin card, terror.
