Stonecutter reviews Griffin Itrip

So.... I ordered up an I trip on Saturday and it finally made it here today. (not bad, 3 days (tue, wed, fri) via USPS.) For those of you not familiar with the Itrip here's how it works.

It's an accessory for Ipod.
It plugs into the remote/headphone jac on top of the 3g Ipod. On the 1g/2g it goes into the firewire/headphone jac.
The product comes with a CD that you install on your pc/mac.

The CD uploads a list of "stations" that correspond with every odd numbered station on the radio from 87.9 fm to 107.9 fm. When you plug it in, you have to select a station that is clear in your area, the Itrip then broadcasts to that station so you can listen to your ipod on any FM radio.

$34.99

I was expecting this product to work, which is about all you can expect. It's advertised to work up to 30ft away. I figured I'd get 5-10. I also figured that I'd have trouble finding an open frequency (Chicago's FM band is quite crowded) I was wrong on both counts. I was able to get at least 25 feet, through 2 walls, I was also able to find a station without any problem. So far I haven't tried it in my car, but I have been able to get it to work on two different radios. The Itrip has gone above and beyond everything I had hoped for. You do lose a little bit of sound quality (it'll never sound better than FM radio) and if you're using itunes on windows it takes a bit of tinkering to put the playlist of stations in the right spot but otherwise it's absolutely perfect!

If you've heard of this and been on the fence, buy it, it works. If you've never heard of it you may want to look into it.

BEST. ACCESSORY. EVER.

its gotten low ratings everwhere i looked cuz it doesnt work well in cars. Particually cars like mine with the antenne in the back of the car.
try it out and tell me how it works for ya in a car if ya would. I looked around at all the reviews for that a while ago. and they were never good.

Myself i was waiting for them to make a new version of the DLO TransPod

supposed to be the most powerful transmitter for the ipod around, plus its also its own power source and stand.

ipod has so damn many cool accessories tho....

I'm gunna get me that. it reads all sorts of mem cards (SD v1 and 2...compact flash, etc.) out of PDA's Digital cameras etc. so you can store whats on the card into your ipod

for me, i could put movie files on my ipod. plug the card in, send over the movie i want to see, play it on my ipod. then load the card back up and put a differnt one on. Kinda using the ipod as a HD for my pocket PC.

:) god love my ipod

Question: Is the iTrip built to work on all three generations or are there two different models, one for the 1st and 2nd gen. and then another for 3rd gen.?

Bought it from here http://www.thinkdifferentstore.com/

I used it on the way to work this morning. It didn't run perfectly, I had to tinker quite a bit to get it positioned somwhere so that I didn't notice some static, and when the song was very quite there was some slight static anyway. I can see where this might REALLY bother some people, but it was enough for me to live with it. I should mention that my antenne is in the front of my car. I would figure that if I had someone riding with me in the passenger seat that could hold the Ipod it would work fine.

yea.

i've been thinking myself of taking apart my dash. and finding some sort of an adapter. to plug in the back of my car stereo, then leave a little plug under the dash to plug the ipod into that. Which then when i turn the ipod on it would override the stereo just like a CD changer would.

my only prob with doing this is its a brand new 2003 car... i dont like taking things apart yet. lol
