What's hip where you live??
Ok in Holland, Spongebob rulez!! It's just insane, so funny! :D:D
It was elected cartoon of the year or something. We have our own Dutch synchronisation of it, the voices are good. Music charts: 1 2 3 chipz cowboy 2 1 10 nena & kim wilde anyplace, anywhere, anytime 3 3 5 sugababes hole in the head 4 7 4 kevin lyttle turn me on 5 4 8 dj tiesto traffic 6 5 9 dido white flag 7 6 11 the black eyed peas where is the love 8 8 9 the rasmus in the shadows 9 32 2 kylie minoque slow 10 10 4 pink trouble 11 9 6 50 cent p.i.m.p. 12 25 2 robbie williams sexed up 13 11 5 the underdog project saturday night 14 12 7 beyonce ft. sean paul baby boy 15 20 2 atomic kitten if you come to me 16 22 4 the darkness i believe in a thing called love 17 19 3 blue guilty 18 17 6 stacie orrico (there's gotta be) more to life 19 28 2 hilary duff so yesterday 20 16 6 hind summer all over again Nena and Kim Wilde with 'Anyplace Anywhere Anytime' has been on no. 1 for 4 weeks. A really good song. I hope you know The Rasmus with 'In The Shadows', it rules. The new one of DJ Tiesto, Traffic, is great. I really LOVE 'So Yesterday' of Hilary Duff. I wanted to see the Lizzy McGuire movie, but not too many cinemas play it anymore. :( BTW she's a dish in her clip! Not sure if we have the same clip as in USA because there it's already older than a year? Expedition Robinson 2003 is hot. Judas Game is an interesting new program: The reward is 20.000 euro. You can either share it with your last opponent left, or take it for yourself. If both contestants choose 'share', they both get 10.000. If both choose "don't share", they both get nothing. If one chooses "share" and the other "don't share", the one who doesn't want to share get the money. :D The trick is to act like you're really honest. You can lie about the reason why you need the money, you can act real poor and stuff.. :p I'm sure you'll hear about this program, you'll get it in the states. ;) Ehm... next thursday I'm getting the extended edition of The Two Towers! :D Too bad we have to wait 2 days longer than you guys... :baby: That was MY story, what about yours? I'm especially interested in the music charts! |
Re: What's hip where you live??
ummm.... here, its all about punk music:
NFG Third Eye Blind The Ataries Taking Back Sunday Pensive And a ton of other bands I'll post when I'm more awake... Here, Hilary Duff is more of a 13 year old girl phenomenon |
Re: What's hip where you live??
All about "punk" my ass...
1. Toby Keith 2. Sarah McLachlan 3. Now That's what I called music 14 4. Sheryl Crow 5. Outkast 6. Ja Rule 7. Rod Stewart 8. Clay Aiken 9. P.O.D. 10. Ludacris 11. Hilary Duff 12. Dido 13. Coldplay 14. Bon Jovi 15. Alan Jackson 16. 3 Doors Down 17. Eagles 18. Chingy 19. Nickelback 20. Beyonce Only decent thing on there (that I've heard) is Outkast... Which is like the only rap group I can listen to because they don't sing all about cars and bling blings and women... And Andre is just so super... Spongebob is pretty big here too, but I don't think it's very funny at all... I'm not big on cartoons in the first place though... I'd rather watch Inuyasha than a cartoon that tries to be funny... Well except maybe The Simpsons... We already have Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers (normal versions) on DVD because we're impatient bastards, but I think I'll pick up both extended editions eventually... But I'd rather get more Hiyao Miyazaki movies and 28 Days Later first... And everybody should pick up the Upright Citizens Brigade season 1 on DVD... :sneaky: |
Re: What's hip where you live??
Isn't spongebob for like little kids? if so, then yes, it is all the craze for little kids ages 3-7.
Jay-Z just realeased a new CD.. and so did G-Unit.. I expect some of their songs to be up in the charts in the next couple of weeks. And elf was just released. Good movie. Oh, and Hillary Duff is one solid 16 year old. Damn, she is so hot. |

yuck Anyway, I think that it is hard to put specific labels on what is big in the US because there are so many different "groups" of people. But pop culture is definately feeding off of reality shows like mad. |
Re: What's hip where you live??
well, for starters, the word "hip" certainly isn't.
And DH, you should try listening to "Swollen Members" good rap group that aren't all about the things you talked about. And Sarah McLachlan kicks ass. Voice of an angel. I try to ignore the masses and live my own life...trends suck. Amongst my friends, the big things are PS2, Poker, Girls, Rock music, Movies, Sports, Family Guy and racism... Reality shows definately rule the TV...and Sex sells, ALWAYS, EVERYWHERE. |
Re: What's hip where you live??
Spongebob is a good cartoon, I've watched it before, but it's popular for the wrong reason. It's not the actual cartoon people like, it's the merchandise and out of context catch phrases. And older people misinterpret the child humor and instead laugh at stuff that isn't intended at all. Like the show portrays Spongebob and Patrick as best friends which they are but stupid teenagers and young adults laugh and think the two are gay partners or something. It's not normal cool though. It's more like teenagers/young adults who want be funny or wacky and childish but aren't and yet they try so hard that it just comes off as annoying and shows me they're idiots. It's just an innocent, good natured cartoon. And most older people that wear Spongebob clothing aren't cool, they're posers who are just wearing it because they want to be cool, not because they actually like the cartoon or support it.

Re: What's hip where you live??
Many Japanese people around here wear spongebob merchandise... it looks really bad.
And I remember when adults accused Ernie and Bert of being gay... THat was horrible. |

Re: What's hip where you live??
I must disagree with Stu and say that the word "hip" is still "hip"...All the hipsters I know say it.
Other than that, I agree with DeathsHand that the only thing I like on the U.S top 20 charts is Outkast. Just hearing the melody to "Hey Ya" puts a smile on my face. Besides that, indie pop and underground hip-hop are hip to me. The peeps from Stones Throw Records and Definitive Jux and MF Doom are making some fantastic hip-hop, again, and they don't rap about "money and cars" as people seem to want to stereotype ALL rap sometimes...I'm glad to hear they are bringing the "Upright Citizen's Brigade" to DVD, that's one small step in finally bringing "The State" to DVD, the greatest sketch comedy show of all time...Let's see, what else is cool? Hmm, I like going to the independent movie theatres up in Philly and watching documentary's and stuff, margarita fountains are cool, austrailian girls are hip, museums with fetal skeletons are cool, and major picture movie sets are hip. Oh, and here is the hippest song of them all of course!! "What is Hip?" as performed by Tower of Power So ya wanna dump out yo' trick bag. Ease on in a hip thang, But you ain't exactly sure what is hip. So you started to let your hair grow. Spent big bucks on your wardrobe. Somehow, ya know there's much more to the trip. What is hip? Tell me, tell me, if you think you know. What is hip? If you're really hip, the question, "Will it show?" You're into a hip trip. Maybe hipper than hip. What is hip? { Trumpet solo/guitar solo } (refrain #1 ends) You became a part of a new breed. Been smokin' only the best weed. Hangin' out with the so called "Hippie set." Seen in all the right places. Seen with just the right faces. You should be satisfied, but it ain't quite right. { refrain #1 } Come on! (refrain #2) Hipness is. What it is! Hipness is. What it is! Hipness is. What it is! Sometimes hipness is, what it ain't. (end refrain #2) { guitar solo } You went an' found you a guru. In an effort to find you a new you, And maybe even raise your conscious level. While you're striving to find the right road, There's one thing you should know, "What's hip today, might become passe'." { refrain #1 } { Trumpet solo } Think about it y'all. { keyboard solo } { refrain #2 } What is hip? Ahhhhhhhhh! What is hip? I'd like to know! What is hip? Is it in the style of your hair? What is hip? Is it in the clothes that you wear? What is hip? I'd like to know. What is hip? I'd like to know. What is hip? What is hip y'all? Hey! What is hip? Hey! Oh! What is hip? What is hip y'all? What is hip? I wanna know. What is hip? Ahhhhhhh! What is hip? I wanna know what hipness is. |
