Greatest Conqueror Ever

Im just wondering who you guys think is the greatest conqueror to ever in the history of the world.

Im going to have to say Genghis Kahn, leader of the Mongols. This guy was just plain ruthless, and conquered virtually all of the known world. (Being Eastern Asia...). I firmly believe that the Mongolian Empire was one of the strongest Empires to ever exist. Im not making a poll, so you guys can pick whoever you want, but here are some suggestions:

Hitler
Napoleon (another one of my favorite)
Atilla the Hun
Hornando de Cortes
Juan Ponce de Leon
Alexander the Great
Hannibal of Carthage
Julius Ceaser
Peter the Great

And the list could go on...

So, who do you people think is the greatest of them all, and please back it up with reasons. :)

I tend to lean toward Hitler in this instance.

The way he took broke little Germany and turned it into a power biding for control of the world was nothing short of absolutely amazing.

That's not to say Hitler was cool or anything -- he was obviously a bad person, but huge level of conquest he pulled off starting from something so worthless was awsome.

In a... Strategically-take-over-the-world kinda way.

I'd also like to shout out to my homies Kahn and Caesar. They did some pretty amazing stuff too. Hitler still takes the cake in my eyes, though.

Conquest rules.

(And even today we still see endless thwarts of conquest, it's just been translated into business. Look at Microsoft, for example.)

Hannibal... he was a genius.

Hitler doesn't cut it just for the fact that he only held his conquered lands for a very short time and completely mismanaged the domestic part of his empire.

My vote is for Alexander the Great. He conquered so much and incorparated those that he conquered into his culture. Just look at all the cities name Alexandria around the world. No one could conquer him and it took an assassin to kill him to end his empire.

Alexander got too greedy when creating his empire. He captured almost all of the known world and still wanted more. crazy if you asked me.

Yes, but crazy is often necessary to be productive...

Napolean actually had less land after power than before... hmmm I still have to think about who I think is the greatest... possibly Alexander the Great... but not sure..

Alexander was killed by malaria, not an assasin....

Anyway...

I'd have to go with Alexander, as well. Just...because....

I had thought he was poisoned. I'll have to go check it out. Goota love the internet... :D

EDIT: Checked it out, and yes Alexander was sick, but there are also accounts that he may have been poisoned by his physician or an attendant of his. So I guess we're both right since the only people who really know are dead.

Julius Caesar. Even though Greece was more intellectual and stuff, Rome was so nuts.

Hitler started with good intentions.. but power is never a good thing... I like what came out of Hitler. Like, the Autoban, and Volkswagen. Those helped in the long run.

Which good intentions were those? Wanting to kill any and everyone he didn't happen to like?

I have never heard of any good intentions from Hitler. At least not anything that could be considered good from a sane and humane human being. I'm sure he probably made a few empty promises or something to help bring him into power, but I don't he ever intended to make good on those promises.

His good intentions was to get Germany back on her feet. After the Treaty of Versailles was signed, Germany was in a TERRIBLE situation. They had hardly no military, and they were like 60 billion dollars in debt.

He promised to make Germany powerful again. And he did.

Hitler was also stupid when it came to certain subjects. He rarely listened to his miltary advisors (read: Dunkirk and Stalingrad), which costed him big time as the war went on. Although, he did turn a poor Germany into a powerful war machine, which, like people said, was pretty amazing. I don't know much of the Mongol Empire, all I know is that they conquered Russia and much of Asia.

Two weeks or so ago, I watched a great show about Hannibal on the history channel, and he seemed pretty damn amazing to face up to the Roman Empire like that. He won battles even when the Romans had double the amount of troops.

I don't know who to pick though, there have been so many great conquerors...

Well, yes, by unjustly using the Jews as a scapegoat.

Hitler wanted to get Germany back on its feet, by eliminating what he thought was keeping Germnay down... an entire race of people.

Good intentions? Only in his demented mind.
