Dell's answer to the Ipod

the Dell DJ

well, it looks like an ipod, it's backlit, has a nice sized screen, it's small, holds a ton of songs (though not as many as the pod) and it has one HUGE advantage. 16 hours of battery life on a rechargeable lit/ion battery. It (obviously) doesn't have itunes support (musicmatch,) and it holds less, but it's cheaper and has better battery life.

15 gb for 249, 20 gb for 329 (299 after rebate)

sorry, biggest picture I could find.

This is the first alternative that I've seen that might actually beat the pod at it's own game. It's certinaly way more impressive than the Zen, or the archos jukebox.

I'd love to see a larger version, something in the 30-50 gb range, then I might consider picking one up.

nice. but in no way an answer to the ipod. its like saying the ngage is the answer to the GBA.

Expecially now that Apple is deciding to open up the ipods operating system to other developers to create programs and things to run on the ipod.

I don't know. This actually looks like it could be ok. The iPod has a good following and is definately an awesome device, but I think the battery life could sway a couple people into buying this.

Meh, I'm happy with my Rio/Lyra 1080 Mp3 player. It's got an impressive 128mb of internal storage with an expandable MMC/SD card slot. Built in FM tuner. And it runs an incredible 9 hours on 2 AAA batteries. Good enough for me on my runs though.

I guess I don't really need one of those 15gb thingers. I only have 3gb of Mp3's on my computer (All legally ripped of course  ). I wish Apple still made the 5gb or even the 10gb iPods still. Do they still make the 10's, I'm not sure.

No, it's not that big of a strech, it's not as good as the ipod, but it's no where near as bad as the ngage. Quality aside, I would not be at all suprised if it's outselling the Ipod within 18 months.

partially, but also the fact that iTunes is made to be VERY compatible with it, along with other Apple hardware, also the fact that i believe it uses fireWire which is faster than USB 2.0. I also like the simple yet modern design of the sleek ipod, not to mention the size that allows you to carry more than simply songs..... theres more reasons, i just can't come up with them right now, the main advantage that the dell thingamachingie has is the battery life, and maybe the backlit display, i don't know if the iPod has it.
