My computer doesn't like to sleep

I was wondering if anyone here could help me with my computer problem.
Whenever I put it into hibernate or standby it will just get frozen in the "prepare to standby" screen.
I have tried to change settings but nothing has worked so far.
I have a Dell Dimension 4400 with Windows XP Home Edition

I like Hibernate. Shuts the computer off, but puts everything that was in RAM on the HD, then when booted on, put back onto the HD and you can start where you left off. Great feature.

But ont he subject of your problem, have you tried getting a small amount of help from Dell?

Well, I want to be able to put it in standby because I don't like hassle with turning it on 50 times a day, but electricity was really expensive last month so i'm trying to save energy.

No i haven't tried getting help from dell...was hoping someone here would have a quick fix so that I didn't need to deal with the dell people. But that is my next step

I didn't think abuot this, but have you gotten ALL the windows updates? I swear there was a fix sometime about the computer not suspending properly.

But if you do have all the windows updates, then either a *shudder* call to Dell or if you can salvage whatever is on your HD right now (unless you have a CD burner and can back everything up), I would do a fresh install of XP using whatever CD Dell gave you when you got the computer.

well, i didn't get ALL of the updates...am never really sure if I want all those things on my comp because it seems like they all do the same thing... I guess i'll look into that
Got any idea what I should be looking for in the description?
Otherwise, reformatting could be a nice weekend activity.

MS always make them look like its the same thing. Most are just security things, but there are a few XP updates that fix serious problems within XP.

I don't know what to look for in descriptions, but I guess just download any updates you don't have that seem necessary.

Reformatting would be a good weekend activity:p:D

Microsoft's knowlege base has every damn problem ever in it. Im sure your not the only one having this type of problem. Do a search in the knowledge base.
