"The GameTavern Migration"....

Now, before anyone else sends me flames, PM's and whatnot, know that I'm simply observing the obvious. Somehow GameTavern has transformed into what see before us- a site full of drama, hatred, and fights for "popularity", and other undisclosed actions by certain members. It doesn't take a genious to know that what caused the site to go .net created a hole that put it in a downward spiral of morale, productivity, and population.

As many of you may know, the infamous DevaSlayer posted some rather awkward things in this board, and has been at AGB for the longest. I see no reason why he could be this way (as I've never seen him like this), but I'm sure he had a good reason. Now before you say I'm mad (which I am), I care nothing of the personal matters in between the staff members/ex staff members of this site, but when it starts to cause several mods and members to leave the site in one sitting, something's wrong. Severely wrong. And it starts at the leadership and management being followed through correctly. That hasn't been happening here, and as a result- well, I'm sure you all see that.

Random newbie: "So Shadow Fox, does that mean you're leaving too???"

While I can't say I won't be posting here, I can say where I WILL be- namely NDose, AGB, and PVG randomly. I've accepted a writer position at NDose awhile back, and actually wanted to STAY with GameTavern, even when I was denied a staff position here for having experience at the former site. I found no wrong in this, as I understand two "competing" sites obviously can't have the same writer (or so I was told). The little sanctions that have developed within these forums ("I hate this guy, you hate him too?? Let's post in THIS board only") are just sickening, and the not-so-secret absence of members like sdt Pikachu have all but saved my tolerance for what's happened to GameTavern.

I used to b!tch about a custom rank awhile back (for a LONG time), and even got into it with some other members (EPT, ftcis), and then it was all good; I made ammends with the chaps-done. But when I still see THE SAME GRUDGES being carried over after there was almost no GT at all, I entered the brink. This is one of the main reasons I've been on hiatus at XBA; not that anyone cares...

Yup, lots and lots of members left GT this weekend, and I just happened to be one of them. To the few members that actually respected me somewhat: (Bluefire, Marionette), carry out my "ninja-ing" and whatnot. Not that you'll miss me; you know where to find me. And to everyone else, and peeps who can't f#@king stand me, have fun at the new "Ninja-less" GT- where no cynical, intelligent, and ranting debates will ever come from me. At least not anymore...the antidisestablishment here is no longer tolerable by my patience or temper.

I doubt anyone would reply to this, but if you do, ask yourself this question:

"Why are so many peeps leaving GT?"

Think about it; then post about that, not me.

WHA????!!!

Wait-a-gosh-darned-minute...

Without you, who the hell will protect me? I need an official bodyguard! An official ninja!

*spots BreakABone coming in the distance*

...Oh damn.

thatmariolover 02-17-2002 10:46 PM

Yeah. At least I'm not the only one feeling this way.

Thanks ShadowFox. You just made my day.

But I DON'T THINK GT IS A BAD SITE.

We're generally good members. Good people. We give a DAMN about each other, and that's what matters. But the people that don't give a **** are the ones that should be gone.

GT was founded for its members. Not to be run as a dictatorship. I ask you to look at the leadership of GT as the problem, and not the site in itself.

Namely, I have had disputes with certain webmasters who were less than kind (in fact, they harrassed me). We need leaders that give a damn. That's what makes people come back. It's got to be "part of the persona" of the leader.

BlueFire 02-17-2002 10:46 PM

...

What the **** is this? People are leaving for no reason (Well, except Shadow)...Is there a reason why Deva has to come back? Because he wants to keep on a membership drive for AGB? Members listen to him, people abandon GT...Where are things heading..

*sees sword planted safely*

*jumps away*

Yugi Starwind 02-17-2002 10:47 PM

Hey, Darren Mcleod, I'll take the job. I'm the oficial samurai of GT.

DarrenMcLeod 02-17-2002 10:56 PM

Well

Yugi... You are my official Samurai. I expect big things from you. You have big shoes from you.. I'd say about a size 12... 13... something like that.

ShadowFox... I'm sorry to see you go. Honestly... you made me laugh, and you always protected me from the evils of the forum... but I'm with BlueFire on this one.

I don't understand why people are leaving. Honestly, it's stupid. If you don't have a reason, don't follow the pack. The staff here at GT (especially Neo and PureEvil... damn they are great) have worked their asses off for this site, and once it comes back, this is the credit you give them.

Damn. That's bad. Give us some time, give us a chance. The forums may have seen better days, but whatever. That doesn't matter. We're like the New England Patriots... noone thinks we have a chance in hell... doing bad... then BAM we kick some serious ass. Yeah. That about sums it up.

The History of Gametavern

The history of “Gametavern” is cannot be summed up as the organization of a newsgroup that has been developed in the past few months. The community, which “Gametavern” stands before today, was in existence before the websites domain was even conceived. To be able to accurately state the history of “Gametavern”, a summary of the history of its members is required. For without its members, “Gametavern” would not be the site it is known as today. Therefore this document will focus more on the trip Gametavern’s members have been taken on. I mean, “Gametavern” is only a name, right?

It all started a couple of years ago when a teen named Aziz Matar started a gaming site called “nintendodolphin.net” (the name chosen for obvious reasons). He updated very often and earned a good reputation with his growing members. After a while he decided a “.com” address would better suit his site. This site came to be known as Nintendose. It was a well-respected gaming site, and grew to a very large size (Ed. Note: I became a member of the forums, then moderator, and towards the end I was the sites letter editor).

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end (to coin a phrase). Aziz became busy with “other things” and eventually lost interest in Nintendose. Cameron Rail (CamFu), the founder of Gametavern, knew that this would happen in the end, and had a backup plan. A different site, set up and run by him would replace Nintendose. Giving us all our “Daily dose of Nintendo Gamecube”. Later, Adam Grumbo (Crash) was chosen to do a lot of the designing and such for GT’s layout.

Although GT has many of Ndose’s old members, many of them went with Vincent Phavman, a latecomer to Nintendose. He started a second site, AdvanceGB.com after Ndose died. Although there is some tension between the two sites members, we can all generally agree that we have the same background. We still share fond memories of each other, and even share a laugh from time to time.

So under the skin Gametavern is nothing without it’s members. We have been around much longer than GT has, and will probably go some other (hopefully less drastic) changes as a website. What really matters is that our members will always be there, and that’s what will always matter.

What about the leadership, though? Well as of late, Cameron has left us. He’s currently in Germany. He has a family to take care of. He’s done his bit, and we all thank him. He gave a damn. And that’s what mattered. What about Crash? Well, I guess I don't know what's going on. Maybe he's got some personal problems to iron out, and if so, all power to him.

PureEvil is the new webmaster, but he really could give a “fu*k how we all of us feel about the site. But you know what? He’s NOT Gametavern. We are. Every single one of us is. And nothing can take that away from us.

Logic would dictate that it is time for new leadership. But maybe it’s just me…

LOL. How many slopes has our forum gone through? Many...Many it seemed bleak for us to stay up...and yet we still made it. I don't understand what the hell is going on now...

Xantar 02-17-2002 11:51 PM

BreakABone has been predicting that I'd say this, but I don't care.

I leave these forums for a few days and the forum flies apart while I'm gone? What's going on here?!?

thatmariolover 02-18-2002 12:08 AM

Check your email Xantar. The explanation is there.

I'm sorry. I really didn't want to ruin anyone's forums. If that's what I'm doing, I guess me leaving might be the best thing for the forums. I just know that being harrassed for no reason isn't right. And that's exactly what went on.

GameKinG 02-18-2002 12:25 AM

No, no, no, its not your fault, I was talking to Shadow.
