ATARI CANCELS 'CUBE GAMES

Driver 3? Crashed. Mission Impossible? Quite possibly. And Terminator Rise of the Machines? It won't be back

14:14 During a Dutch gaming event, a representative for Atari has apparently revealed that three of the publisher's most promising titles are no longer GameCube-bound.
It seems that Driver 3, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Mission Impossible: Operation Surma have all been cancelled indefinitely on GameCube, though for the time being these cancellations remain unofficial.

Atari had no comment to make on the story when we called the publisher earlier - a sign that the story is almost certainly true, and that nobody was supposed to know just yet. Oh well. Should these titles gain a last-minute reprieve on 'Cube, we'll pass on the good news.

And once again, another few games that GameCube owners wouldn't have bought anyway get cancelled. I mean, do you really think Nintendo fans would buy games from Atari? The question now is what will happen with the Matrix games. They seem to be the only ones Cube fans had any interest in.

Hmmm...you never know, one of those games might actually be worth getting....nah probably not.... :burger:

Driver 3 was the only one I was really interested in. I've heard some promising things about it, plus its a racing game/on foot game. (Racing games is one genre I love:p) But oh well. Reviews are what I wait for anyways so if it turns out not good, I won't miss it.

lol, I'm thinking at least some will want the next Matrix game... it was one of the better sellers for Cube this year.

Just hope they don't far enough to cancel that too.

Factor 5 sells well too.

OMG! I won't be able to play the next Defender game on the GCN :baby: The only game the company has that interests me is Alone in the Dark and I don't think they have the next game at least in the drawing board yet. The rest of their series can rot in hell for all I care.

Jonbo298 09-25-2003 03:15 PM

Well, it seems that Mission Impossible was not cancelled. (Atari made a mistake and put the game on the "list" when they sent it out.)

Then they sent out a release stating why they cancelled T3 and Driver 3 for the 'Cube. Which by the way are really lame ass excuses. (I'm not saying that as a Nintendo person but it is a lame excuse even if it was cancelled for other systems also)

"We need to correct the information on MI and confirm that it is being developed for GC. With regard to T3 and Driver 3, we made the change due to development time constraints. With T3, the game needs to launch with the DVD and there simply wasn't time to develop the game for the platform. With Driver 3, our primary goal is to ensure that this game is the highest quality possible and therefore, we are focusing our efforts on our lead SKUs (PS2 and Xbox)."

Let me get this straight about T3. They were making 3 different versions of the game? Couldn't they have just straight ported it to the 'Cube? Lame excuse. And if they need to get the game out by the time the DVD hits, I see Enter the Matrix written all over this game.

And as for Driver 3. Straight port would've been fine anyways. I doubt the "quality of the game" would've been compromised had it been released for the 'Cube. I'm gonna laugh my ass off if Driver 3 turns out horrible and gets bad reviews across the board.

Wow! Two or three games! The world is over. =P

What? Unofficial? Then what's the point of this thread...?

GameKinG 09-25-2003 06:55 PM

Their reason for not developing it on cube is pretty lame. GCN is easier to develop for than PS2, and has more power.
