Eidos to Pull GCN Support

Quote:

September 05, 2003 - It looks as though another publisher is set to end support for Nintendo's GameCube console. Publisher Eidos Interactive yesterday revealed that due to a decrease in profitability it would not continue to develop for Nintendo's system.

The company's chief executive Mike McGarvey said that versions of big games would continue to be released for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.

"The GameCube is a declining business," said McGarvey, who added that traditionally Eidos has not invested heavily in Nintendo systems. "If other companies follow us, [Nintendo] will have a hard battle to fight."

Eidos recently released a port of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin for GameCube.

And another one bites the dust.

That's the problem. You have to put some effort into the system to get a profit out.

They released hitman:silent assassin long after the xbox, ps2, and pc.
You can't expect the same sales from a 6 month old game that's been badly ported.

Yeah they just dont understand that if they dont make a quality game then its not going to sell!!! The only good game that has come through them is timesplitters 2.

Well, As if Eidos could loose anymore respect. Now they wont be the publisher of TS3 on any console, by choice apparently. So you TS fans on cube can be assured that it will make its way to cube.

Seems too dumb if you ask me. Im think Free Radical (owners of the game) probably didnt want them too.

won't matter in the slightest. cube owners only buy Nintendo, Sega and Capcom games.

Gamer 09-06-2003 04:02 PM

Not too worried about eidos, not like they make any good games anyways.

OR...

EA (Madden, Medal of Honor, Def Jam Vendetta, Bond, SSX3)
Namco (SCII)
Konami (MGS Twin Snakes)
LucasArts (Rogue Leader, CloneWars)
Free Radical (Timesplitters)
Volition (Red Faction)
Square (Final Fantasy)

Maybe I'm the only one, but I own or plan to own many games from these developers/publishers for my Cube, and I'm a multiple console owner...

At any rate- what software did Eidos have planned for GCN IF Hitman 2 went platinum? Not a damn thing, and the console would've lacked support Regardless due to the company's "tradition" of avoiding Nintendo, AKA "competition in making games".

You're under arrest for making a sweeping generalization.

Actually, that's pretty accurate.

*checks his cube games...*

hey, he's right! Hell, i own a cube and PS2 and still went with the PS2 version of Soul Calibur 2.

Blix 09-06-2003 10:22 PM

Well, I remember all the efforts Nintendo made to make the GCN easy to program for and cheap. Seems like that isn't enough when companies always bring their games to their console after doing them for other consoles.

I got an Atari game for my cube ;)

By far the bulk of my GCN purchases were Nintendo games... followed by Sega, then EA.
