Anyone have any tips for me on Madden?defensive tips especially...anything and everything is appreciated!i have 2004!thanks!

Defence is hard on Madden I have yet to find any type of full proof strategy there... The best thing I could tell you is that in franchise/owner mode... get the fastest DBs you can possibly get.

They through out the catch-up AI, which is terrible because if a reciever with 90 speed gets ahead of the pack, you have no chance in hell of catching him.

One tip I guess I can give is, turbo on defence is pressure sensitive.. jam the button in hard to get maximum speed out of your players.

Just use these plays to contain the offence:

1st and short: run
1st and 10: run/pass
1st and long: pass
2nd and short: run
2nd and 10: run/pass
2nd and long: pass
3rd and short: run/pass
3rd and 10: run/pass
3rd and long: pass
(if they go for it..)
4th and short: run/pass
4th and 10: pass
4th and long: pass

run: and play that concentrates on defending the run mostly, let 2 or 3 of your linbackers blitz

run/pass: A play that is 50-50 on defending the run and the pass... only one LB may blitz on this if there are four linemen, and two LBs go in if there is 3 linemen.

pass: only one LB may rush if 3 linemen, and no LBs rush if four linemen. If you want man-to-man or Zone it's your choice... depends on how much yu trust your DBs in one-on-one situations.

these tips are mostly for the CPU, some humans pass on every play.

my Colts have great speed on defense. I play a man-zone cover 2 defense for the most part (4 D-Lineman, LB's/CB's cover man to man, 2 Safeties drop back into zone). My 4 lineman usually create a decent pass rush when the QB drops back, while I have a lot of man and deep zone coverage.

I find that it works against the run fine as well. Just make sure you hit *TRIANGLE, right (d-pad)* to shift your coverage guys directly in front of the player they're covering.

I change the scheme up a bit when playing against teams with different offenses (power running game, west coast offense, etc.), but my base defense is the one described earlier.

Watch what formation the other team is in. If they have 2 WR's in there, run a 4-3 formation. 3, a nickel formation. 4, a dime formation (unless your 4th CB really sucks...then leave it as nickel and let the LB or safety cover the 4th WR). If they're stacked (goal line), Run a 4-6 bear or goal line formation.

I hope that isn't too complicated...Justin pointed out the basics, I tried to get into a little more detail.

thanks Stu. ill read that thru a few times. it seems in 2004 there is much less plays. i miss the dime, nickel, 3-4 and 4-3 formations, etc...here all the playes are either run, pass, deep pass- etc. its simple, but i feel dumb. also that makes for A TON less plays

maybe cause i use EAsy play?should i take EAsy play off?its not gonna be alot harder is it?? :(

oh, heh heh...yeah, it's probably the EAsy play mode. It gets a little more complicated with the formations, but it also allows you to have more control over your team.

whoa...i can sighn players for like 1-2 million less than they ask lmao!! should i just go ahead and sighn good players and get rid of my old ones?

and when do i get the ability to make a new stadium and work with the actual stadium itself?
