The following was broadcast live on CNN 24th of March

In front of camera is the CNN anchor. He is joined by three American military experts (one being a retired two-star general from the 'elite' Delta Force) and a British ex soldier. Footage on side-screen shows Iraqi soldiers surrendering to coalition troops.

CNN Anchor: "We've no current verification as to whether these are US or British troops the Iraqis are surrendering to."

Yank 1: "They look to be ours - only US troops wear boots like those."

Yank 2: "Indeed, and they appear to have the standard issue camouflage fatigues."

Yank 3 (Delta Force): "I'm not sure - we'll have to get close-up images of them to be 100%. We'll definitely be able to tell from the shape of their Kevlar helmets if they're ours."

Ex : "I'm surprised to learn you're all experts. Since when did US forces carry the SA80 rifle as standard issue? Their DPMs could've been bought, as could their boots and webbing for that matter, so you're chasing rainbows if you can I.D them from their clothes!"

Anchor: "I think you're right."

Ex : "Of course I'm bloody right - anyone with half a brain and basic military training worth their salt should be able to I.D a British soldier by his rifle unless he's special forces! Not to mention the fact that they're covering all their arcs of fire properly, not shouting "woo yeah!" randomly and haven't raised a flag in direct contravention of their orders!"

.......At this point one of the Americans pulls his mike off and leaves the floor. The other two look very uncomfortable.......

Anchor: "I think we can safely say that the soldiers on your screen are British............."

maybe, but they wouldn't use them as standard equipment, they would use their own arnaments...which i'm not sure exactly what they are for the US troops.

To Gekko, i'll admit that i'm not 100% sure about the genuiness of the article but although some details sound sketchy its not impossible, and I guarantee you that CNN wouldn't really keep this headline news for long and that would explain why its not known.

Ah yes, the US Marine Corp are all morons. Well, they might be the most feared and best trained large military group on the planet, but they are still morons I guess. :rolleyes:

Also, the last time I checked the Mirror was one of the WORST British tabloids that even make the Enquirer look legitimate.

Been enlisted in the Marine Corps for 10 months. It rubs off on me ;) And Marine is spelled with a capital M, it is a proper title. Saying marine would be referring to water.

This is actually two articles. The first one, supposedly from the Daily Mirror, can't be confirmed by any news source. I mean, this isn't a Daily Mirror exclusive, it was supposedly reported by CENTCOM. It also isn't listed on any friendly fire reports. And you won't find Al Lockwood saying that on any news site.

Also, an incident like this would explode. First off, the British helicopter pilot would be facing huge charges for wrecklessly endangering coalition troops with his landing of the helicopter. Then more for assault. The Marine would've killed him, ok, so I'm biased there. But no Marine stands by as his friend gets in a fight, and there would be two British pilots, and quite a few Marines on the ground.

And getting into petty details, Furious would not be capitalized. Marine should be, though some journalists don't, this one did in the first paragraph, and they would be consistant. Also, one too many * in f*******.

Next article, to keep it real simple, there was never a two-star General in Delta Force. From 1977-1981 Col. Charlie Beckwith was Commanding Officer. Through the 80s they had Col. Rod Parschall, Col. Sherman williford, and Col. William Garrison. From 1991-1992 they had Col. Peter Schoomaker. From 1992 to present, they have Col. Jerry Boykin. Never a Major General in there.
