Sony's in first? Who's in Second?
As if the question doesn't get any more confusing with each passing day, first it's Nintendo, then it's MicroSoft, then it's Nintendo and last I checked it was MicroSoft.
Anyhow, if the horse's mouth is to be believed as of today, Nintendo has claimed the second spot in the console war. Microsfot has released it's financial statement for the fiscal year ending June 30th, and here is what it says about the big black and green machine. Quote:
Now Nintendo has said it sold around 9.4 million console at the end of March 2003, assuming Nintendo hasn't sold a damn console since that period, they would be tied, but seeing as how there are Japanese and Us charts shown quite frequent, that ain't the truth. Now I'm trying to find a link that confirms this number. All I get is Nintendo sold 5.6 million in fiscal period ending March 2003, and 4 million ending fiscal period March 2002. http://cube.ign.com/articles/357/357088p1.html http://planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=4191 |

They'll both claim second, and since there is no accurate sales data, I will tell you to listen to your heart.

Re: Sony's in first? Who's in Second?
Of course both companies are going to claim they are in second place, who wouldn't? Lets just wait until the generation is over and then hopefully we'll get the truth.

This comes as no surprise to those who could look past their own bias a few months ago when EGM put Xbox in 2nd. Of course, they won't believe it now either.
The only companies who can tell you how many consoles that have sold worldwide are Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. Microsoft is in third place, accept it, your life isn't going to end. Maybe they'll come back, maybe they won't, something is wrong with you if you care. |

Re: Sony's in first? Who's in Second?
I agree with Bond here. Wait until this gen. is over, and then we can look back and try to determine who got second. But honestly, it doesn't matter. If MS is second, then Nintendo will want to pump up the bar next gen. and try to reclaim a better spot. If Nintendo is second, then MS will have to rethink on how to become better.

Pfff, they'll BOTH need to rethink their strategies, 2nd place or not!

I don't care who wins this generation, or the next. But it's clear to anyone who actually looks at the facts, the numbers that each company has put out, that Microsoft in in 3rd. If you took the time to research the numbers when EGM came up, it was clear that they didn't make sense. In January, Microsoft was predicting 9 million sales worldwide by the end of June. Now you're telling me that Xbox sold 13 million by the end of March? It's possible, but it doesn't add up. Now Microsoft comes out with actual numbers which do make sense, and it shows Microsoft in 3rd. Microsoft predicted 9 million by the end of June, got 9.4 million. See? Makes sense, it's believable. Now unless you're someone who will refuse to believe anything that says Xbox is in 3rd, it's quite obvious that Microsoft is in 3rd. Deal with it. I don't know how I can say this nicely, but if you have personal feelings for the success of an inanimate object, something is wrong with you. Seek help. |
Re: Sony's in first? Who's in Second?
Don't really know all 3 of them seem to make up numbers! I know Nintendo made up numbers for the N64 when it started to fail last time around and I can’t see why they would not do it again. Sony also did this with the start of the PSX so I don’t think you should really trust any one of them and definitely not the company's that need to sell the damn things. I mean if you look at independent numbers from all over the world it shows Microsoft and Nintendo are pretty much neck to neck. Also don’t Nintendo and Microsoft feel just a little a shamed of there sales numbers 9 million is not really very good now is it?
