Hudson is developing a number of Famicom remakes for the GameCube, to celebrate the Famicom's 20th birthday. Entitled the Famicom Collection, Konami will be publishing these budget games in Japan for just 3200 Yen each.

The first game will be Famicom Collection Volume 1: Cubic Lode Runner, a remake of the Famicom arcade game Lode Runner, featuring 3D and 2D gameplay, over 50 stages, a map editor and remixed background music. It will be launching in Japan on July the 10th.

On the same day, Konami will also release Famicom Collection 2: Star Soldier. This title will include the same graphical/audio enhancements as Lode Runner and a variety of play modes.

It's thought that there will be six Famicom Collection games all in all. No Western release dates as yet.

Hmmmm... I wonder if it will sell for anything more than $5, if even that...

Perfect Stu 05-27-2003 07:51 PM

I think that it would be amazing if more companies started to do this. Imagine having all the Nintendo games for the NES on a 3 disk collection! That would be sweet.

GameKinG 05-27-2003 08:06 PM

As long as its cheap.

Too bad that's not what Hudson and Konami's doing...

*shrugs and walks away*

I have one game on my Famicom that includes 76 games on one cartridge...why can't people do that these days?

P.S. My Famicom controller is busted so I can't play it since the Famicom controller is directly connected to the system. *cries*

I don't care about those! I want my Bonk!

Canyarion 05-28-2003 06:36 AM

I just bought another used NES, because the other one broke down... friggin' Nintendo.

Now I can finally beat Zelda 1 & 2 :D

Why the HELL would you do that when you can just put a few extra touches and update the graphics and sell it for 35$ on the gba?

It would be neat if the had ALL of the NES games onto one GC disc. It would surely sell for all the gamers who want to remember the good times with the NES... without the NES.

I don't think that is possible to fit them all onto one disk.

I don't honestly know either. It depends on how many games there were.

Let's say there were 10,000 NES games (probably not near that many in all reality) at 150kb apiece (that's about the average, right?); you'd have 1,500,000KB of data.

GC disks are 1.5GB or 1,500MB or 1,500,000KB of data.

So, yeah, if there were no graphical updates or anything, I would expect all of the games would fit without much trouble.

One Winged Angel 05-30-2003 11:30 PM

I think it's more than 150 Kb a piece... wasn't it like 1 megabyte or something?

Deosn't matter... I bet they can release in 3 discs or something... were there really 10,000 NES games?
