GameTavern, our digital hangout (goodbye from Angrist)

Long have I been a quite active member of Nintendo forums.
It all started with my almost broken wrist. Because some bone was out of place, they had to put that hard stuff on my wrist, dunno what’s it called... something like concrete but softer :p. Because it was my right wrist, I couldn’t write so I couldn’t go to school! A whole week I stayed home. We just had cable internet by then, and I convinced my mom to let me surf the internet most of the time. First I found some dead forum that I joined, but later I found the popular Nintendodolphin.net forum. I registered on May 10, 2000. Within that week I got more than 100 posts, something that must have annoyed certain people there. :D
Later, as we all know, the forum was changed to Nintedose.com (Nintendo claimed NintendoDolphin… making us speculate about the name of the console..:)) .

Nothing important happened, but I felt comfy there. I got ‘only’ 558 posts there, as you can see here. :D

One day I hadn’t been on for a few days and I wanted to check the replies of some interesting threads. Yeah you know what I wanna say. The forum was down! That really sucked big time. When was that anyway???

I never went to the two alternative forums ‘AdvanceGB’ and ‘GameTavern’. I didn’t feel like it. I looked into them, but I noticed that some members went to this one, others to that one.

It took months before I felt the need for posting again. That was in… *checks profile* May. I first went to AdvanceGB, but after 40 posts or so, I hated the layout. It just didn’t feel the same… plus I wondered where DeathsHand was. That good old crazy bastard. Although… old?? I once looked on ICQ for someone called DeathsHand. And I found a 14 or 15 year old boy. :D I never figured someone younger than me could make all those cool posts. Anyway, DeathsHand occasionally visited AdvanceGB, found me and told me he was at GameTavern. So... I signed up on May 11, 2001, a year and a day after I signed up to ND.net. Now it’s almost February 2003. I almost have 5000 posts.

What makes GameTavern so great??? I think we use it as a hangout. While others go out and talk about girls or cars or whatever, we hang out on the internet, talking about games. We all love games. And where do you find the biggest gaming fans?? Not in town, not with your friends… but on the internet!
That’s why we spend so much time on the forums. And that’s really ok. Others would rather be sitting behind the TV, but we prefer this. We actually learn quite a lot... like... human relations and stuff :sneak:. And we follow the news a bit... we discuss politics, religion,... It’s not just gaming!

I really like forums. But you know, sometimes you grow out of a certain group. Like you feel you get to old or whatever for certain talk. You can’t really discuss the things you’d like to talk about. You also feel that you spend too much time on reading things that don’t really interest you. When that happens, perhaps it’s time to leave.

That time has come for me. More than a year ago I found a nice Dutch forum, with discussions that are more... Dutch perhaps.
I move on to a new stage.

I will be using the extra time for homework, religion, human relations and entertainment (I still have to finish Unfinished Tales, Heen! :().

Don’t get me wrong. I will still be following some GameCube news. And from time to time I will visit GameTavern. But not under this name. I will make me a new account and act as a newbie, but keep my post count very low. I don’t know when it will happen, perhaps next week, perhaps next year. Don’t just believe it when somebody says he’s me. The only way to proof that is showing new pictures of me. If I want you to know it’s me, I’ll do that.

As you can see, I still have 2 posts left. I will use those to reply to this thread, to type some farewells to members and stuff .

This is it! I AM LEAVING. Goodbye.

Aw... :(

You were one of the reasons I signed up for GT. I really liked your posts. You reminded me of myself in quite a few ways--I guess it's the Europian heritage, or something...

*applaud* All in all, nice last post. :)

It was fun knowing you.

BlueFire 01-30-2003 07:31 AM

Goodbye, Angrist. Have a good life.

Bond 01-30-2003 07:52 AM

Goodbye Angrist. :(

Happydude 01-30-2003 09:24 AM

:baby: Goobbye Angrist...i'll miss you!!!!!!

we all will miss you!!!!!:baby:

Jonbo298 01-30-2003 09:32 AM

Goodbye Angrist! Some people lately enjoyed your posts and others didn't. But all in all, you weren't too shabby. Good luck wherever you go!:sneaky:

Angrist 01-30-2003 10:57 AM

Dyne. I still consider you to be quite new here, but today I realised that you're around here for almost half a year! Perhaps it's because you sometimes act like a newbie, in a nice way. :D I always liked you, dunno exactly why, perhaps because you don't bother others.

BlueFire. I never knew what to think of you. You're weird. Nice, but weird. Funny sometimes. You seem to know certain persons here in real life... :hmm: :)

Bond. We had some disagreements, but after that I started to like you. You're kinda smart (almost as smart as me ;):D) and very devoted to your console :D.

Happydude. You're one weird fellow. :p woa it's snowing like crazy here!! You've one of the few persons I talked to on MSN and I remember you once didn't understand it when I was trying to tell you I'm a Witness of Jehovah. :D Get a girlfriend and be happy (dude)!

Jonbo... so you're already 18! I guess you like women a lot... Just looking at them or also getting to know them?? I found that the second thing is much more fun! :D

Mushy, I just love your avatar. :D Keep it. Oh yeah, look at mine, nice surprise hu? :D You're a nice guy. And give back HappyDude's OoT! Or was it the other way round? :sneaky:

GameMaster, I thought of you when I thought of my Zelda avatar. I guess you've been missing it, well, it's back forever. :D
You're one of my favorite members. A good sense of humor and some intelligence. :D Cya around!

BreakABone.... I never knew what the fuzz was about with you... they called you Penguin as if they knew you from another forum... Oh well, doesn't matter. Nice to have you back here, although I won't be enjoying it anymore.

DeathsHand, as I said in the first post, you were like a big brother. :D Although you're a couple of years younger. man there's a snowstorm going on here!! HEFTIG!!:D
It was a good decission when you said you would post less here. You're actually pretty cool, you even look cool, no matter what they say. Like that guy from The Verve (bitter sweet symphony). :D
You'll be alright. :)

Perfect Stu... what to say? I always thought you were a lazy bastard (sorry) until I discovered that you do a lot of sport. :) You can be nice, try to show it a bit more often...

Xantar! :D Also one of my favorite members! In some ways he looks like me... he's smart, he goes to university, he wants to stay virgin until he marries (I assume...), he writes...
Soon I'll print the stories of Samus and Link (or which one is finished). I think you'll find a nice wife, will settle down and become a great dad. Don't overdo your work though, family comes first. :)

Joe! :D Good bye, enjoy your life. Don't do anything stupid. ;)

Pfff that's enough for today, I'll finish it tomorrow. I wonder if I've used to many smilies...

Joeiss 01-30-2003 11:27 AM

Peace out. Live a good life, and die old and bitter. That is the best way.

manasecret 01-30-2003 12:24 PM

Later on. Hope life turns out the best it can be for you.

DeathsHand 01-30-2003 12:36 PM

Toodles!

Rndm_Perfection 01-30-2003 12:44 PM

Wait... is his postcount accurate? IF so, make at least one more post! Gah, you've gotta go out with a nice round number.

Er, i guess we should let you in on the little secret now that you are gone, but really it's nothing special. Folks call me Penguin because for the most part, that's what I go by on the Net. not to mention it's also my AIM handle.

Anyhow, hate to see you go, but like the old saying goes "They always come back"

hopefully, next time you leave you don't make such a long-winded good-bye speech.

Crono 01-30-2003 01:04 PM

Bye, Angrist. I never really talked to you much...but anyway... have a good life....Bye.

Perfect Stu 01-30-2003 01:32 PM

Take care, old friend.

Count your blessings, not your problems.

and remember...

Amateurs built the Arc. Professionals built the Titanic.

What the heck, I suppose I can make a rare post for you, Angrist. So you're planning to leave, eh? Well I just want to let you know you have always been one of my favorite members (even though you tended to piss some people off :D). I'm also glad you decided to bring back the traditional Angrist avatar because it saves me from having to ask you to do it ;). Oh yeah, what ever happened between you and that girl? You still interested in her? Guess I'll leave you with a little Lord of the Rings reference:

One Dutchman to type them all
One Dutchman to post them
One Dutchman to read them all
And look in GT to find them

Anyways, have a good life!

Angrist: "Who are you again?"

:(
