Does it Make a Difference?
Well, Matt over at the IGN boards has confirmed that the home versions of Soul Calibur II will feature a specific, unlockable character for each system.
the cube version as been rumored for quite some time will feature Link with his trusty bow and arrow and master sowrd, while the Xbox version will feature Spawn, which I really hope isn't that comic book hero because IMO the guy sucks as a hero, and he didn't go into spefics about the Ps2 character but he did mention something about it not being overall exciting. All in all, I think the Cube got the better end of this deal, but the question is will one unlockable character make you buy one version over another? And what do you think of this policy, do you think 3rd parties should start incorpating console specific features? |
Well, seeing as I have a cube Ill buy it for that. I do like link but thats just a perk to a game I already wanted. And I think PS2 will also get spawn cause Sony owns spawn I think.

It's cool that Link is a character in Soul Calibur II. Let's just hope he won't be celshaded in this game.. ;)
I never liked Spawn. Plus, I don't even have an Xbox. :( I'm interested in the PS2 character though. Let's just hope it's someone like Auron or something and not someone like...eh..Tidus. ;) |
I think they will render link to match the other characters. Could even change his clothing, though thats just a crazy idea.

Well, SSBM and SW2K have some differences. Especially in body tone (how cartoonish they look). Id say it will probably be more like SW2K.
|
Ehm but without the girly look.
How about they add Oni Link??? :D:D The extra character does add a lot. If the graphics are also good, I'll buy it... perhaps. :) |
Yeah, I always though oni-link would be perfect.

Yeah, the gamecube version may have link, but guess what, the controler still sucks for fighting games. Nintendo ports also just tend to be.....suckier.

Don't tell me that diaper-wearing tekken guy is PS2's secret character
Or is he just a normal character like Yoshimitsu is in both Tekken and Soul Calibur? Or are those just 100% fakes and just some guy's guess or something? :p *checks link* ..... oh, they came from Namco... hmm... They shoulda got someone more exciting to be the PS2 character :p (if that is the PS2 character)... I think Alucard woulda been a cool character to have in a fighting game... and he uses weapons... But whatever :p |

Hmmmmmmmmm..........I'll have to disagree this time, SC only used 6 or 4 buttons, last time I checked so of Namco keeps the same button config, then GC owners shouldn't have a problem. Can't remember if the orginal used the analog or D pad but if you have to use the D pad then that will be a problem, unless you have an option where you can use the analog stick. Neways either way I'm going to buy this game. :D |
SC worked much better with the Analogue stick than the Control Pad IMO. And since I reckon the GC controller has the best Analogue stick of the three controllers (not to mention you can actually use the DS2 on the GC, hence you have a choice of two controllers), the GC version should be the best controll wise. There are four face buttons, just like the DC controller, and I'm pretty familiar with the layout, and comfortable with it...
Link looks pretty cool, and I can;t wait to see his alternate outfit, maybe it's oni link costume? :D All in all, I'd definately pick the GC version over the others. Oh yeh, DsH, I also heard that guy in Tekken will be the exclusive character in the PS2 version. |

What a ripoff :p As for controlling... I remember Analog control on the DC game sucked... at least I hated it... I used the D-pad (which was still uncomfortable on DC because it was too low)... Soooo unless the analog movement is better in this one, I'm gonna have a bit of a problem deciding which version to get :p If I get one... I probably won't be able to afford it... |
Well, I guess there are several options for those who hate the GCN controller for fighting games:
1)Learn the controller, I did it for MK: DA, after a while your hand doesn't hurt as much trying to pull off combos on that mini D-Pad. 2)Learn how to use the analog stick for the GCN controller 3)If you own a Ps2, invest in the Playcube thingie or get the Ps2 version 4)This new controller by Hori ![]() |
