Accalaim Entertainment - a new level of stupidity

Quote:

First, they tried advertising on people's graves. Then they made some guy wait in line 50 days for a crappy Turok game. Oh, and then they gave people money to change their name to Turok. Could Acclaim Entertainment possibly pull off something even stupider? The answer is yes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The UK branch of Acclaim Entertainment has just announced yet another stupid advertising campaign. To promote their latest PS2 game, Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Acclaim says that they'll pay the speeding fines for anyone caught by a speed camera on October 11th.
Acclaim says that they, of course, do not condone speeding. They just want to help out the people caught speeding on the launch day of their new game.

The reasoning behind the campaign? Acclaim spokesperson Shaun White explains, "Taking the side of people who enjoy driving fast, it therefore seemed quite logical to offer people caught by camera something that would make them feel okay about it." Right.

The UK's Department of Transport was quick to point out the obvious, stating that Acclaim's irresponsible campaign would encourage drivers to speed--possibly endangering the life of the driver and the lives of others.

"If they want to foot what is likely to be a hefty bill, that is their choice," a government spokesperson said, "but we cannot condone something that so obviously encourages people to break the law and do something dangerous."

He also went on to say, "Basically they are encouraging people to speed and to break the law. I just hope for their sakes that none of these people ends up knocking down a child."
absolutely unbelieveable. are they f*cking insane?

Wow. Can't you just see the lawsuits being filed by the people that get hit and claim it's Acclaim's fault...

Crono 10-06-2002 06:03 PM

They are going a bit too far, what a bunch of idiots.

Mushlafa 10-06-2002 06:31 PM

Ive never seen anyone do anything this stupid in my life.... let alone an entire group of people agreeing on this...

CrOnO_LiNk 10-06-2002 06:35 PM

Once again Acclaim proves pure stupidity. I think Acclaim should be banned from advertising. This is very stupid... Even their commercials suck! I mean, a girl and a guy are swinging on a swing and suddenly one of them bleeds?

Also, if you go to www.bmxxxx.com you can find Acclaim's banned poster ads for the game.

GameKinG 10-06-2002 07:35 PM

What logic..."We support people who drive fast."

So on oct. 11th they basicaly give you the opportunity to speed. Theres a reason for fines against speeding...

Another Acclaim publicity stunt to promote their **** on a disc.

As much as I have frivolous lawsuits, I would actually enjoy watching this happen to Acclaim. Don't know if it actually will since I'm not sure that many people will know about this advertising campaign. But still, would be nice to make Acclaim squirm a little.

*pushes fingersman in front of a speeding car*

NOOO!!! Acclaim created incentive for speeding which led directly to fingersman being injured! And because we all like him so much, the entire GameTavern community has suffered immense mental anguish in sympathy. We are owed at least $200 million!

*wakes up*

What a pleasant dream...

One Winged Angel 10-06-2002 10:18 PM

hahaha... not only will they pay for speeding tickets, but more like pay for lawsuits for others killing people as well.

Jason1 10-06-2002 10:31 PM

Hm...If enough people find out about this, couldnt this pratically put them out of business? I mean depending on how fast you were going, cant speeding tickets run upwards of 200 dollars easily? x that by a lot of speed happy people who want their money=no more turok.

CrOnO_LiNk 10-06-2002 11:51 PM

Acclaim never used to be like this 10 years ago. What happened? Their ads used to be pretty "whatever.." But now, they suck!

Happydude 10-07-2002 12:13 AM

man i want a car and a liscence for both to be confiscated on that day:rolleyes:

lol, what will they come up with next?...giving people guns like in turok to kill othre ppl?

GameMaster 10-07-2002 12:41 AM

Acclaim will give you $50 to mate with one of your parents or siblings. That'll be the day

Angrist 10-07-2002 06:44 AM

Ew I wouldn't want to go through that for only $50... :green:

They shouldn't allow Acclaim to do this.
