Killer Apps???
I remember hearing the hype about GCN's 2nd year beating Ps2's second year (or hell, some even said it would beat this year's line up) but I have yet to see how this is possible.
Now that I am barred from my Ps2 (not for long, but for now) I have had to examine Gamecube's line-up closer, and I don't see much. So basically, I'm asking what game do you expect to carry GCN for the fourth quarter and face off with GTA Vice City? And I'm not talking on the sales chart side, but on raw quality. Is there going to be a game coming out that will be better than Smash brothers and Eternal Darkness? |
It all boils down to taste at the end of the day, but I would almost definately consider Star Fox Adventures and Metroid Prime (though I have read your concerns about the game :D)...
Oh, and this is 99.9% unlikely, but I think last time I checked IGN's release list, it said Mafia was coming out end of 2002, the game tha is very similar to GTA 3, but bigger and better. It's funny though, I haven't really heard much about the GCN version, so maybe it isn't coming... There is also RE 0, and BG:DA (if you haven't purchased it for the PS2)... Edit: Oh, I myself would get Timesplitters 2, and even though it is coming out for all three consoles, apparently (said most of the editors at IGN) the Gc version controls the best. So if you can't get it for PS2, get it for the GC. |

Tires can be shot out and it effects how the cars handle... I think maybe you can damage cars with a bat and stuff... there are like 50+ INDOOR places including hotels, night clubs, coffee shops, etc etc... 100+, maybe even 140+ missions, and the missions will be more complex than the GTA3 missions... or at least some of them will... And they will pay more attention to the story this time around... the main character has a name and a voice, there will be like 80+ minutes of cutscenes compared to 30 of GTA3... although there's still the big crazy fun shootout stuff :p Oh and apparently there might be some guns that you can shoot from inside the helicopter... like maybe the sniper rifle... And the graphics engine was reworked for better lighting, texture, detail, etc etc... They had a huge preview in the latest PSM (which I got today :p)... Just basically think GTA3... now think at least twice as much of the GOODNESS OF EVERYTHING IN THE GAME! And that's GTA: Vice City ;) Oh yeah and also although the main controls stay basically the same, they reworked the targeting system a little bit... I dunno all the details, but apparently one of the changes is that like the little reticule or whatever it's called changes colors depending on wether or not the person has a weapon... and stuff... so yeah... Oh and Gekko... just keep quiet, K? ;) Anyways, after reading that preview, I'm looking forward to GTA:VC more than I am Zelda... Especially since GTA:VC is coming out first :p But yeah I'll shut up umm... I dunno I think both system's have a good line-up... and although PS2 might not have the QUANTITY of good titles it had last year, there are certainly a number of good QUALITY games coming out this year... same goes for NGC (although it never had quantity in the first place)... and hey, isn't that what Nintendo fans are always saying? Quantity vs. Quality? Even though I always say that's just a lame excuse and even though PS2 has more quantity, it also has more quality... but let's not go there... :D |

Edit: And just to clarify, I forgot to put 'supposedly' a 'better' game than GTA3, the reviews I read seem to say so, but I can't tell anything until I play it for my self :D. |
the Gamecube offers huge killer apps...but only very few of them
|
I expect Star Fox, Metroid, RE0 hopefully, Super Monkey Ball, Animal Crossing, Evolution Worlds maybe, to be all good. Some more maybe, but I dont have that kind of money.
|
personally i can see where game's comeing from.
I hadnt touched my GC since a few weeks after i got it at launch, theres simply been nothing to play (ps2 has really been the ONLY system with a lot to play in that time) But Mario seems to be getting thigns kicked off. your happily playin mario and Super monkey ball.. then suddenly BOOM, Star Fox Adventures is out......... then ya got 2, then not soon after Metroid prime is out. RE0 comes soon. Zelda soon in 2003. Whether it has a game to compete with GTA VC or not, who knows, im sure theres prolly not gunna be a game in the GTA genre style game that will compare to VC, on any console. Thing is tho. the ball is starting to roll. the games are finally starting to come. Hell, first year of PS2 sucked also. i can remember talking with my freinds and saying how the PS2 was suckin ass all that first year when there was nothing to play. year 2, i hugging and kissing that thing for all the games it was giving me. GC prolly wont get that many games. but they're comeing. EDIT.......... Oh yes, and the game you want to hate, but keeps drawing you in..... Animal Crossing. game looks so ugly i want to hate it so bad. more i read about it more interesting it seems to get. I try to stop reading about it. then a friend brings the subject up... BAH! |
GTA:VC is reported to have 4,000,000 pre orders. Thats a record for a console game.

Well Zelda: OOT was the first in the book of records, because thats when they choose to put it in, but it was the most ever at that point. I dont know if Majoras Mask beat it, I imagine it might have considering the success of OOT. But then MGS2 had like...2,000,000 pre orders, so they beat the record. And now this...
I dont know if its lack of games to buy, or just shows how large PS2's fanbase is. Thats why nintendo should release at least onme major title later next year, to maximize sales. |

Yep... So therefore there would be a lot of people wanting to buy it... and even if the major advertising for it hasn't started, y'know there's gotta be word of mouf... and then I bet anytime someone goes into a game store looking for a PS2 game, they shove GTA:VC in your face... :sneaky: I havn't been in a game store for awhile though... no money... it's depressing looking at all the goods and not being able to get them... SO CLOSE YET SO FAR! WHY MUST THE WORLD TORMENT ME SO!?!? :baby:  |
IGN reported it, but it was an insider story so I got it secpnd hand. Im sure its true though since about a million people wrote it on IGN boards.
Geeze, its as surprising as how many PS2's continue to sell in japan. They must build houses out of PS2's or something...Capcom's president says sony designs em' to break so the consumer buys another system... |
correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't OoT's record something like 320,000? and wasn't that EVERY SINGLE RELEASE COPY? obvioulsy 4,000,000 is way more impressive, but you can get most games now without a reserve. I rembember getting my copy of OoT at EB back in nov 98 (i want to say november 23.) Even some of the people who had reserved didn't get the game if they didn't put money down on it.
|
Even with 4,000,000 im sure it wont be that hard to find.
