Out of interest...

I was wondering if anyone new a good site to start learning C or C++... And if a person were to know next to nothing about it, how hard/long would it take to become literate in such language :D.

I doubt any website would tell you how to learn C or C++, although I could be wrong. Amazon.com has several good books on it, but they are all a little pricey, around $50 I think.

I too have been thiinking about learning C... our uni had a few tutorials on it (in fact, it had thousands of 'em), but you need to be a student there to use them.

You're probably best off with a book instead of learning from the web anyway. That way when your buggy rubbish newbie code breaks the compiler which breaks Windows which then destroys your house and makes your cat explode, you won't have to go find it all again... ;)

I've been told that, from a reasonable level of mathematical knowledge, it takes about 3 years to start writing good code, but you should be able to get the basics after as little as six months.

Urk.

C = bitch.

Er... Fudge...

Would it help if you were a fast learner and had impeccable memory :D.

Ok, so any reccomendations on books?

What would be considered reasonable mathmatical knowledge?

I did get an A* in GCSE's and an A in my A-levels for maths, hope that helps :unsure:.

Yeah, that's plenty good enough for most C I would imagine. Maths was never my strong point....

And I think the whole timscale thing was kinda suggesting fast learning/good memory...

You might be able to code it in your sleep for all I know (for some reason, the characters "M" and "$" spring to mind).

Not a clue regards books though...
