Not one GameCube or Xbox game made the top ten, that's quite disappointing. The shares look about how they should be though. What do you think?

If a change happens, it will be in the fall... and if a change happens, things will go right back to Sony because they could drop the price of Ps2 so low right now that they could nearly put Nintendo out of buisness.

Um...Yeah. There are other markets besides Japan(even though Japan is the main market, I guess). Plus, if Nintendo made it out alive through the 32/64 bit gen. then they can surely live through this.

On a side note, what the hell is the diff. between PS2 PROJECT FIFA WORLD CUP and PS2 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP ??:confused:

Not quite. For one, Nintendo's rich as hell, and you won't put them out of business.

Second, who will give a damn if PS2 sold for $5? Unlike Xbox and Gamecube, PS2 is being marketed to a much smaller group of people, because so many people already own one. Sony could sell PS2 for $5, but you think I would care? No, I already have one, and so do at LEAST 30 million other people.

The people who want Gamecube are the people who don't own one. the people who want Xbox are the people who don't own one. And there's a lot more of those people than the people who don't own PS2.

Yeah, take the BS you just said, and apply it to how GCN and X-Box has yet to out-sell Ps2 in ANY month

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all rich as hell. Microsoft being the richest in hell. :D

Playstation 2 is actually marketed to the general and casual gamers, but I see your point... anyone console is marketed to who does not own the console. But gekko, how many GameCube's do you have now? Two or three? You must have cared when Nintendo dropped the price of the GameCube from $200 to $150.

I know Sony sold over 100 million Playstation consoles. I'm sure it's more than that by now.

Even if PS2 went down to $5, people would still be buying GCs and XBoxs, because they have games that the PS2 doesn't. Besides, why would Sony want to lose so much money when they have the opportunity to make a huge profit? It just wouldn't make sense for Sony financially, and it would not put Nintendo out of business. Maybe hurt their sales, but not put them out of business.

I didn't mean an unreasonable price drop... I mean one like this last one that is forcing Nintendo and M$ to suffer bigger losses.
Lets say in November the prices are all the same, but that whole month Sony falls into a 3 way tie with Nintendo and MS, chances are that Ps2 will be $100 come december, and that will force Nintendo and Microsoft to cut thier planed Income in half just like that.

For each console produced the price of production goes down, at this point I wouldn't be suprised if Ps2 costs less than GCN to make. Also take into the equasion that Ps2 has a lot more gamers out there willing to buy games than Nintendo and MS have. SO with a huge price cut Sony wouldn't be hurting themselves, they would ONLY be hurting the Competition.

This first drop is killing Microsoft, and a $100 price tag would surely hurt Nintendo.

But that price cut will only happen if Nintendo or MS start to gain too much ground on Sony... and right now, Sony is dominating so it won't happen. but that month when MS or Nintendo tops (or even comes close to) Sony in sales, Nintendo and microsoft will have hell to pay as far as profiting.

Oh, and I would like to add that Sony's price Cuts, just like this last one, wouldn't be meant to hurt sales of GCN and Xbox, nothing can change the sales like that... but it will hurt MS and Nintendo's pockets more than it hurts Sony's

You're assuming Nintendo and Microsoft would follow Sony in the price drop. I don't know if they would, in fact I doubt they would.

Nintendo and MS before Sony's cut had no real plans for a price cut (especially that soon). But due to the fact that Sony was already out-selling them by a huge margin at the $300 price tag, any kind of Sony price cut would have been followed by a Nintendo and MS one.

Unless MS and Nintendo pull themselves out of the war, they will drop prices. I don't think it would exactly be safe for Nintendo to let Sony have it's more valueable system priced less. Plus neither system in the plublic eye has even compettive games.

Of course, down the line, Cubes and Xboxs may sell good anyway, but by the time they come remotely close to even N64's sales Ps3 may be making it's dominating debut.

PS2 already won the war, that doesn't concearn anyone anymore.

Microsoft dropped the price and took a beating. Nintendo wasn't affected much. But they dropped the price because it was still practical. PS2 can go down to $100, but Nintendo and Microsoft don't need to drop the price at all, and they likely won't.

There's still 4 years left to this generation. While most people agree PS2 is going downhill, most people also agree GC and Xbox keep getting better. Nintendo and Microsoft aren't stupid, they aren't going to sell for $100 this early on.

Last generation when Nintendo was behind 35 million consoles sold, they still had to sell N64 at a competitive price.

Why?

Because If Psx would have stomped Nintendo to the ground even harder.

This generation they are ONLY behind a mere 20 million, why wouldn't they give a competitive price this time around? The previous price drop further proves my point. Remember how the Nintendo rep was talking like you? Then they must have took a peek at the sales charts and changed thier minds pretty quick.

Your logic makes no sense. Here are good reasons they should drop the price if Sony drops the price.

1. Sony at a higher price is dominating anyway
2. Nintendo Gamecube's ONLY advantage over Sony would be turned into another advantage Sony will have over Nintendo.
3. 140 Million consoles were sold last generation, and 40 million have sold this generation, that leaves 100 million (or more) sales from last console war that haven't been transmitted to this war yet. Also, more than 50 Million of last war's sales were made when the consoles became $99...

This is Ps2's 3rd holiday season coming up I'm sure it will have a 4th, then Ps3 will be out. So this geeration has 2 years left, and a maximum of three, but NOT four.

Ps2 is going downhill? I don't know who you are talking to, but it must not be most people.

Just like it used to be unimagineable for Nintendo to drop the price of Gamecube less than 6 months into it's life-cycle... and just plain ludacris to this MS would drop the price of Xbox $100 within 6 months.

You do relize Nintendo is only another $50 drop away from $100 don't you?

Nintendo and Microsoft would be stupid if they just kept thier price high, then waited to late to drop it... kinda like the ill-fated Sega Saturn.

Just look at the facts, Nintendo had NO plans to drop the price of Gamecube, when Sony droped the price everybody followed suit. If it was so horrible that they had to do it before, why wouldn't they do it again? Every day Sony's lead is getting bigger and bigger.

Well, any console could still technically win this console war, but if you are going my sales numbers Playstation 2 has most likely won this war. But if you're going by quality of games then that's another story, not a fair comparison yet though considering none of the console's life spans is over.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all being effected by the price cuts because each console manufactor is losing more money. Although Microsoft is losing the most I believe, but also game sales have gone up so it is sort of evening out.

There's probably actually more like 3 years left in this generation, considering when Sony decides to launch the Playstation 2. But I also do think PS2 will continue to go down hill, it's hey day is over in my opinion.

I agree and disagree. Sony has a bunch of good games coming out this fall. However, it will be overshadowed by Nintendo. Then... In 2003, Sony needs some big guns... PS2 will be home to some great games, but they will be underdogs, sort of, because I think that people will be expecting more from Nintendo and MS.
