AMD or Pentium
i need help figuring out which one to buy so which one do you like the best?
|
I haven't met anyone who knows what they're talking about that likes Pentium over AMD
Of course, I don't know what I'm talking about, that's just what I hear. If I remember correctly, Pentiums are a lot more expensive than AMD's and don't really out perform them. AMD's would out perform Pentiums if you bothered to overclock them. Someone can tell me if I have that right or wrong. . . |

sorry for the double post...well, not really:D
here is an article about the new amd and the new one from intel: AMD's Athlon XP 2000+ vs Intel's 0.13-micron Northwood
arg! i'm starting to lean toward the p4 northwood. its cost efficient and its and overclocking animal. what do u guys think? |
I believe the new Pentiums are the best for gaming. AMD should work fine though if your on a budget.

P4 outperforms AMD right now, but it costs a lot more.

Be careful, though. P4's do outperform the Athlons right now, but all the benchmarks I've seen that prove that are using Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) and the P4 533MHz FSB. So if you go the P4 route just make sure you get a P4 motherboard with 533MHz FSB that uses at least PC800 RDRAM (PC1066 RDRAM if you have plenty of money), as opposed to DDR or SDRAM.
(Or get a 400MHz FSB mobo and PC800 RDRAM and just overclock them both to 533 and 1066, respectively, which I have heard from AnandTech.com (thanks again, gekko) usually works fine with no problems.) And don't worry, RDRAM not as overpriced compared to the other kinds of RAM as it once was. db |
