HELP ME!!! My CrapPuter is Crappier than ever (problems inside)
HELPME Puuuuuuuuulllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeee.
My "Parent's" CrapPuter is totally !@#$$ed up! It's running Win98 SE but it's a royal pain in the @$$. My 800x600 desktopsetting no longer works, so I'mnow on someodd resolution and it's not 1024x768,that's a normal resolution. I can't get updates for this POS since it's from1997,and I "added"my 3D acelerator which is made by the now-dead 3DFX (It's a Voodoo 3 3000), I just got my sound back which was alsodead and my Dad has gone Royal on me for trying to get some updates from Gateway aka Gateway to Hell. The idiotdosen't even know how tohold acan of F^&*$ing Compressed Air, and the only reason he "Cleaned"outthis PCwas because of the Damage, when he did clean the Crapper of a PC, it looked likethe"Dustbowl"was in my Computer/Rec Room fromall of the dust inside. If anyone has Concrete Ways, NOT Ideas on how to fix my Resolution which is "Out of Range" please tell me. I can't call Gateway becausethe warrenty expired, so don't sugesst it, and no "Get a new Comp" remarks either, If I DO get a new comp, I'll be building it. Also, i you have sugestions on how to clean a keyboard besides Compressed Air, let me know ASAP, I can'ttake this ugly Resolution much longer, and this IS NOT MY PC, IT'S MY DAD'S!!!! I can't wait until July so I can get MY PC back, I'll check thistopic from time to time, and if GT has a "Printer friendly" version of threads, please point it out. This is a 300Mhz P2 Gateway 2000 with 64MB SDRAM and a 3DFX Voodoo 3 Video Card,as wellassome cheap WinSoundcard (a soundblaster clone) and it'srunning Win98 SE "UPGRADE" it used to run Win95, soyou cansee it'san archaic Piece of Crap. |

Cyrax.. just give up with PC's and get a Mac. You always complain about PCs, yet you sent yours in to get fixed

Hang in there man, tough times never last, but tough people do. :D
I like small crisp resolution, not too sharp on my eyes though. Nothing bigger than 800 x 600. |
Urk... I fail to see how anyone can use a computer at lower res than 1024 by 768... I'd run windows much higher than 1280 by 1024 if my video card would let me...
Cyrax, I really have no idea what is up with you thing. If you're tried reinstalling all the drivers and it still doesn't work, then I can only assume windows has f**ked up in some random way (like it is prone to do) and in order to get back to ground zero you'll probably need to do a reformat/reinstall. The problem is probably a messed up config file in the registry somewhere. Shooter - do Macs never, ever go wrong then? IME they go wrong just as much as windows PC's, but the difference is it's such an opaque OS that there's seldom any way to find out what the problem is. My friend with a G4 TiBook has had to send his back to the factory three or four times in the year that he's owned it, due to miscellaneous hard and software failures. |

Windows machines have problems constantly. Problems with programs not working, the computer crashing, programs not installing, missing .dll files, hardware not being detected, and much bigger problems. Most Mac owners will never have a serious problem with their computer, and honestly, I haven't experienced many minor ones either. Office 2001 had a problem opening a link in Entourage. Service Release 1 fixed that, never had another problem. I've had two Macs in my lifetime, one for over 2 years, the other for over 1. Still have them both, keep them both up and running. If all my problems came down to a stupid decision by me, a dead machine replaced without problem, and a minor software error that was fixed with the first update, I think Macs are pretty-much problem free. Now my Windows machines... wait, sorry, we have a message length limit :p EDIT: Most, and I do feel confident saying most of the problems Mac users would run into had to deal with extentions. But OS X no longer uses ententions, so that's done with. |
