Prediction time
Just for old times sake... which console do you think will sell more, Xbox one or Ps4? And why?
Also, for those who don't know, Ps3 surpassed Xbox 360 earlier this year. Since it's been on the market less time and has higher worldwide sales.. and the next generation of the HD consoles are here, it's safe to say Sony won the war with Microsoft again. But there is a question now.. will Ps3 outsell Wii? If we look at Ps2, well over 30% of their sales came after the Ps3 was launched. If the trend continues just based off of the percentage, the Ps3 would be sitting somewhere over 105 million sales. The Wii could also keep selling and go even higher than that. Who do you think will win this battle? |
Re: Prediction time
Actually, believe Xbox and PS3 are still fairly neck and neck with Xbox having a slight lead.
I don't think either will outsell the Wii worldwide because sales have slowed.. granted they still have several price cuts to work through, but I feel kind of lack large evergreen titles that will keep folks buying for years later. That said, I do see the PS4 launching from a much stronger position than the Xbox and being 100 bucks cheaper won't hurt. The one advantage I will grant MS is I still think Halo/Gears is a much stronger combo than any of Sony's IPs ability to sell or be out within the first year of release. |
Re: Prediction time
I also think it's going to be pretty close, but PS4 will take an early lead due to the cheaper price.
I'm going to wait for KH3 before I buy one though. I feel like by then any obvious hardware issues will have been worked out and I can judge which console is truly better for me. |
Re: Prediction time
I think PS4 will outsell Xbox, mainly do to the shit show that was the reveal of the Xbox One. I think a lot of people are still grumpy about that. :P
Valves console thing is supposed to launch next year too. Im interested to see more info on that. |
Re: Prediction time
I don't think the PS3 can overtake the Wii. Wii sold over 100 million units now and we can be sure it will continue selling.
My prediction is that the PS4 is going to own XB1. Microsoft is trying to sell a weaker console for more money, just because they threw in all this stuff gamers don't want. I wonder about 2 things: - how will the PS4 do in Japan? Recently people have been saying the Wii U doesn't sell that well because Japan love their handheld gaming too much. PS4 will show if this is true. - if the Wii U sales will pick up and it will go toe to toe with PS/XB. |

I use vgcharts, as recommended by users here lol. According to the worldwide figures Sony has surpassed Microsoft by over a million, and on a week to week basis has been outselling it by a big margin every week. |

And a million is still running fairly neck and neck. Give it a few weeks, believe MS/Sony/Nintendo are all due to announce their Q2 results for the year. |
Re: Prediction time
I've heard the numbers on vgcharts are mostly made up or extrapolated heavily based on small data sets.
Another thing to consider is that when Microsoft first announced all of Xbones crazy DRM and always online stuff - that blew up huge in mainstream media. Everyone knew about it, even people that don't follow games on the internet. When M$ backed off, that didn't really get that much mainstream coverage. Plenty of people still think the Xbone won't let them play used games or trade with friends. That's probably going to affect early sales. |

But as an on-going source, they are terrible. |

I has different sources (including wiki) placing Ps3 ahead of 360 back when they were around 50-55 million sales. But everyone said that the other sources were wrong and vgcharts was closer to reality. Now that Ps3 have overtaken 360 for a long stretch of time on vgchartz it's no longer valid? lol. Why is it hard to believe Ps3 is out in front? Even if it were a tie right now, the fact that 360 had a head start would mean Ps3 is at least moving at a better pace. |

I just questioned the use of VGChartz as a source. And as far as I know, WE never told you other sources were invalid. I'm only telling you from experience that THEY are highly unreliable. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/782.../1100-6411865/ Earlier in the year Xbox 360 at 78.2, PS3 at 77 Sure we'll get more updated numbers soon. |

If you actually believe Ps3 is ahead, then by all means let me know lol. It's certainly been on pace to pass 360, be it 1 mil ahead or behind. It would just mean Ps3 outsold 360 by 8-10 million since the Ps3 launched. |
Re: Prediction time
I think / hope PS3 does better. Im bummed that they snuck in the announcement that online PS4 games will require a PS+ account, and that is my only gripe. I think the $100 difference is a huge difference. Who gives a shit that it don't include that eye camera crap. Nobody. I also feel that Sony has better exclusives overall, but their launch window exclusives don't have me too excited. Now if MGSV was a PS4 exclusive that would be a different story.

The long and short of it is 1)They are pretty much at the same place 2)This late in the gen it ultimately doesn't matter. And going into next gen it doesn't matter. They will continue to share a pretty similar library of games. Sony has the momentum mostly because Microsoft kept tripping over its own two feet with their console, and are priced 100 bucks more. Also helps that gamers have shown their disdain for Kinect so making it a mandatory part of the package only hurts some folks interest. That said the delay of Watch_Dogs and possibly Drive Club now.. leaves the PS4 in a curious place this holiday season since it really does lack a truly killer game. As does the One, but I do think with decent marketing.. MS can trick folks into believing Ryse is worth buying. |
