Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
I'll let e-sports caster TotalBiscuit explain the situation:
TLDW(atch) : Mass Effect 3 will have launch day DLC that is included with the collector's edition of the game. The DLC contains a new character that is core to the ME universe and story. The DLC is $10. If you get the collector's edition, it comes with it. In the US, the standard edition is $60, collector's edition is $80. If you feel strongly enough about it, you can send an email to contact@bioware.com |
Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
Yeah this is a load of bunk.
I think developers are just trying to push the goalpost further and further to see what gamers will put up with. |
Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
Day one DLC is too far. I don't mind the "anti used game/anti piracy" first day "DLC" you get free with every new copy, but just putting it in the collector's edition is ridiculous. Or only if you pre-order before a certain time like with DAII.
It makes me sad, is what I'm saying. |
Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
I really don't care if there's first-day DLC for a game.
If anything, I wouldn't mind that. Rather than saying to me "Wow, they didn't put this in the game, what a load of chumps", I think "Wow, they're already prepared for when people beat the game and complain about a massive lack of DLC." (Even though that's not really the case right now). But if there really is a character you need to play the game, that you need to pay extra for - that is a load of BS. "Thanks for buying Megaman 10. To start, you'll only be able to play as ProtoMan. The download of Megaman will cost an initial $10" :ohreilly: |

This is how far we've come this generation. From expecting a full game experience on day 1.. to sweet, at least I'll be able to buy the whole experience at some point! As much as I hate this practice, it isn't the day one DLC that bothers me. Its the cascading of the fanbase that somehow people who buy the CE are more valuable and loyal a fan than those who buy the normal edition. And its bunk, its an evolution of the online pass.. now you don't even get everything if you buy the frigging game new! |

They want you to pay $60 + $10 up front. Proof: https://twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/...03318277529601 It's just a total lack of respect for your customer. Or at least, I feel disrespected. I've been with them for years on this series. I've bought every game in it, and I've bought most of the DLC. And this is how they treat me when the final game comes out? What it boils down to is this: is that game worth $60? I don't think it is. It isn't worth $60 to get what I know isn't the complete game. It isn't worth $60 to tell a company I approve of this. It isn't worth $60 to feel like I'm getting cheated. The common response is, "Oh, you're not entitled to that content, stop whining." No, I'm not entitled to it, and they aren't entitled to my money if I deem their product not worth the price they are peddling it for. The dollar value of something isn't just the sum of its features and content. How much you value the company and its practices also plays into how much value I put on a product. It's really painful for me to say that, I love the series so much. But I'm not going to let myself be taken advantage of. There are so many fantastic games out there right now that I haven't played yet, from companies who treat their customers right. The Witcher 2 is one of them, I'll give them my money years before I give it to EA and Bioware. I've sent bioware an email letting them know. |
Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
I'm going to rent this game for $4, beat it, and bring it back. Suck a big one, EA.

Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC - How far is too far?
Yeah, no shit. EA and BioWare are like the mother fucking RIAA of video gaming.
I don't know about you guys, but I stopped buying EA's shitty ass shit like 5 years ago. That's why pirating is for. Fuck DRM and fuck DLC. I refuse to support these companies. But you know what, a lot of people apparently do. Because this isn't the first, second, third, or even fourth time that people are laying into something that this company has done that is upsetting. Solution = STOP BUYING THESE GAMES!!!! If people actually backed up their complaints with piracy and boycotting, you would see better practices from these companies. Quote:
Edit: This thread isn't even half that bad. DLC is no biggie. If you want to see an asshole that has been raped, look at all the fools that parted with their sweet cash and now have to deal with EA's Origin and that shitty EULA. |

Cam and I were talking and we think it'd be great if the DLC character was Shepard.
