Batman: Arkham City Impressions

The game is out.

Combine already beat it.

I just got it.

Story of my life.

Let's discuss our impressions so far!

Most of it was amazing, the end-game stuff was a bit hooky.

And the final boss was kind of weak.

Also for "paid" content, not much Catwoman segments.

As a whole though, really loved the game. Right now GoTY 2011 for me.

I beat it earlier today. I liked it; probably better than Arkham Asylum. I was a little disappointed in the size of the world, but otherwise I thought it was great. It felt like a definite step in scale from AA.

Looking forward to "Batman: Gotham City" now.

I got it, am absolutely loving it.

So far it feels really too easy though.

Maybe it's because I'm used to the first game already.

I'm just now playing Asylum for the first time! It's pretty spectacular.

I built a new PC a couple of days ago, and my graphics card came with a code to get Arkham City free on Steam, so I went ahead and got Asylum while it was on sale last week, for $10. Going to start City as soon as I finish this.

I think once you master the combat system it's pretty easy. Boss fights were kind of a joke in the first one, and also seem to be a joke in the sequel so far.

What classifies as 'hokey for a comic book turned video game voiced by the people who were in the cartoon?

Anyways, I want to play this game, but considering you guys make it sound like it took no time at all to beat, I don't really want to waste my 70 bucks on something I'll be done with in a few days. Dark Souls it is.

The voice acting is the best part :D

Also yeah the main game is short, but longer than asylum and the amount of side-quests and challenge maps is daunting.

Finishing the main game only puts you at like 30% completion rate.

Good game. Very short, but the quality is there. Looking forward to Batman: Gotham City as well.

I think that challenge has always been in stringing together a constant barrage of offense rather than the one on one fights themselves. In a way, the combat system is based on achievements rather than defeating an adversary. Ingenious.

So once I beat it I got a distinct feeling this game suffered from Spiderman 3 syndrome. No not emo Batman, I felt they crammed too much shit into this game. I got the impression that they felt they had to include as many villains and characters they could.

Also right at the start I felt I was dropped into the middle without much explanation or setup. Where as Arkham asylum did a much better job of getting you into the plot. I still enjoyed it and I thought overall the game mechanics and construction were better than the first. But I found myself lacking the same amazement and feeling of wanting more that arkham asylum brought me.

One of those weird decisions, a lot of the backstory/gap between the two games is explained in the comic series that came out this year.

Mostly, how Arkham City was set up, the emerging faction wars between Joker/Two-Face/Penguin and of course Hugo Strange's presence.

Theres also a fair chunk of story in the audio files you unlock. I enjoyed seeing all the different villains, but it did jump around pretty quick.
