Gears of War 3
 

I remember we had a few fans of the franchise here, granted none as big as Aladuf, but the beta for the 3rd one is out, and its pretty solid.

There are some interesting changes

First they seem to be pushing respawns in the beta, with Team Deathmatch, Capture the Leader and King of the Hill, which is interesting for Gears since I was so accustomed to the one life game play the first two kind of had at the forefront. Yeah, there are modes in both that have respawns, but none of these seem to have that.

Now, you have I guess weapon load-outs as well, but being Gears, you get your choice of an SMG (Lancer, Retro Lancer and Hammerburst) ironically the Retro Lancer is a new gun to the franchise. Then your choice of shotgun, either the Gnasher or the Sawed-off Shotgun.

There are of course new weapons/nade types including the Digger, which barrels underground and digs towards your opponent before exploding.

All in all, I'm having fun with it, though shotgun remains king in the franchise.

I love Gears, and I'm going to get it at launch and play through the campaign. I'll also put countless hours into the multiplayer, but I have no idea why. The multiplayer in the Gears games does little else other than piss me off. The whole 'race to the power weapons' thing makes the rest of the combat feel worthless.

You mean race to the power weapons why carrying your shotgun.

What pissed me off about 2 and continues here are some of the nade effects. Like how smoke nades won't allow you to fire for a few seconds. Its a cool effect, but really unbalances the game at times.
