BioShock 3 Revealed

I believe we have friends of this BioShock series, who knows anymore

http://www.whatisicarus.com/index.php

This time it takes place in a floating city.

I would be skeptical is it wasn't Irrational making the game. There are a ton of opportunities to expand game play by placing the game in a sky city.

I still haven't played the second one because I don't think it can live up to the first, and here they are already announcing a third.

The second is not a true sequel. It was made by another developer, not unlike some of the more lackluster Call of Duty efforts. B2 was not bad, but it simply was more of the same with a few kinks added here and there, and multiplayer. Actually, I thought there was a lot of potential inchanging the antagonist from a Objectivist (Ryan) to a Communist (Lamb), but the theme was not fully explored.

Re: BioShock 3 Revealed

I for one am very excited. I thought it was funny timing because I started BioShock 2 last night and was just lamenting how it didn't pull me in like the original... but this announcement has reinvigorated my interest.

I love the fact that Infinite is essentially a new IP disguised as a sequel. While BS2 feels pretty solid so far, I just didn't feel a return trip to Rapture was...necessary (and i know im not alone).

I feel just as mystified by the Infinite trailer as I did playing the original BioShock's demo, which is what originally made me interested. Can't wait to see what Irrational does with this...oh wait, I'm gonna have to cuz its not due for TWO YEARS. seriously though? its already had 3 years dev time, we are talking an Alan Wake timeline now...

Bioshock Infinite

I was rather disappointed by Bioshock 2, still havnt finished it, but this looks real nice. Apparently this is a prequel, set in 1912. I wonder if Andrew Ryan will be in it at all.

edit:
Didnt see that there was already a thread about this.
Oh well, mine is better anyways.

I like both threads, but I can actually watch this video. The other kept messing up on my shitty laptop.

Wow, super-swisher. I'm excited.

And I have the power to merge em.

Re: Bioshock Infinite

I thought it was going to be the same essential game, until I saw the developers talking about it, and they said (something like) "Just because It's called 'Bioshock', that doesn't mean it will have anything to do in any way with the previous games' technology or storyline."

That sold me on the idea. Because I really really liked Bioshock, because it was new. Bioshock 2 (which I'm still playing through) just seems like the same game, because it basically is (In the sense of universe, tech, characters, etc).

So I'm glad they're changing it up.

Re: Bioshock Infinite

I'm curious about what the political overtones might be. I loved how they wrote the first Bioshock story. It was more philosophical than political, and they treated all characters and ideas involved fairly, I thought. Looking at the images from this game, there is obviously a lot of red, white and blue flying around, which might lead one to believe that the overtones might be critical of America, which would be a shame. Not out of any sense of nationalism on my part, but only because its been done to death and I think they could do better.

The time period and propaganda throw a lot of possibilities in the mix, though, including the early 20th century progressive movement that highlighted some less than moral dalliances with eugenics (hence the "Do Not Burden Columbia with your Chaff" poster).

That would very much fall in line with the philosophical plot themes established in the first Bioshock, and avoid any terribly overt political statements (aside from the obvious immigration debates that continue).
