PSMove Price
This is only a rumor, but comes from a listing on a Canadian website.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/11/p...-60-in-canada/ ![]() Right now, its not much of a fair price, but I think that will change depending on whether or not this comes with a subcontroller/camera at this price. |
Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
Aren't prices in the U.S. typically $10 less than Canada? Or is that different nowadays?
If so, $50 USD -- while pricey and not exactly a good price point to go head to head with the Wii -- is certainly a doable price. |
Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
This is much cheaper than earlier speculation had suggested.

Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
I guess I'm looking at the whole picture here, based on the price and the image.
That is only the price of a lone PSMove controller, you still need to invest in the PSEye and then a subcontroller, and depending on the game a second PSMove controller. So looking at at least 120 bucks in the States just for two PSMove controllers and the PSEye. |
Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
I was gonna say...that ad says 60 bucks for just the controller.....:ohreilly:
That's hardly a bargain. If the whole package was 60 bucks I'd say Sony has a Wii-contender. Right now I'm saying this is just a very very expensive ass toy. |
Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
Depends on if it comes with a free great game. If it does, it might succeed.

Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
Again, this would be the Canadian price. According to Amazon, the Wiimote (for example) is $5-$10 more in Canada.
For a single PSMove remote, that puts the price at about $50 USD. It's certainly not undercutting the Wii, but it's perfectly competitive. It's also the launch price, which may quickly come down. Now, do I think the PSMove would fly off the shelves in Wii numbers at this price? No. But it won't be because of the price, it'll be because it's a late generation peripheral being sold to crowd who either didn't buy into the motion-gaming in the first place and bought a PS3 instead, or to the crowd that has both the PS3 and Wii already. Neither one of which is going to rush out in large numbers to buy a late-generation peripheral. The price is secondary. If this had launched right aside the Wii, the difference in price would be small enough to be moot. |

Let's say we already own a PS3 like we do. And let's say we are interested in getting a PSMove. Right now, using your system. A single Move controller is 50-55 bucks. Okay not bad. Let's be fair and say they charge you the same as Nintendo for the sub-controller. So we're looking at another $20 there. And finally, we're gonna need a PS Eye, which goes for $40. So before we even buy a game, we're looking at 110 bucks or so just to PLAY it. And let's be kind and say it does come with a game, is any game worth a $110 controller? |
Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
Well, let's get this clear -- I agree, it won't sell well.
The unsaid part of your argument is that they're spending $110 on top of the $300-$400 (or whatever) spent buying the PS3. It's the fact that it's a peripheral, and a late-gen one at that, that makes the price too much. I suppose it is partly the price's issue, I mean if the whole thing came out to be $30-$40, then the story would be different. But going by the prices of the Wii stuff, that kind of price just doesn't seem realistic, and $110 sounds pretty fair. Quote:

Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
I wonder how many people are going to buy a "look, it's just like Wii!" controller for that price.

Re: PSMove Priced? (Rumor)
So figured, instead of making a new thread would just bump this one, and say I was pretty close to the final asking price.
PS Move Controller is $50 Navigator Controller is $30 There is a Bundle wirh PS Move and PS Eye with Sports Champion for $100 And then a PS3 and same Bundle for $400 So just for a single player starter kit, you are looking at $130 on top of the cost of the console. You get a game, but if you are craving motions that much, you can look at the fact that the Wii is literally only $70 more and comes with two games! |
Re: PSMove Price
Earl, that means that extra 70 dollars is going towards (probably) Wii Sports Resort.
130 bucks is a really good price for everything. |
Re: PSMove Price
It's a good price for the hardware you get. The question is if it will be worth the investment in the long run.
