I'm sort of considering this game, but I'd like to know before I get it...how sexist is it exactly?

No more sexist than the media. Perhaps sluttier than the media.

Bayonetta is a dirty girl, and we like dirty girls... right?

I'm less than 30 minutes in, just found it too hard to concentrate on the game while I was so sleepy so had to stop.

Being relatively sexist doesn't make it more acceptable.

Haha I don't really see anything wrong with it. I don't see her as sexist, more so as a very strong willed woman. I mean honestly you can compare her to every super heroine you see with less clothes sometimes haha. She's witty, a sexy accent, and wicked looking moves. Honestly compare her to catwoman. If you find catwoman sexist, then I suppose Bayonetta is sexist.

Going with bayonetta though, you rarely see any portrayal of a female lead character that isn't borderline sexist.

Storm, Rogue, Catwoman, Psylocke, Jean Grey, Wonder Woman. I mean they're not really leads, but they're pretty sexist. Scantily clad, often times accents etc. Basically if you're going to boycott Bayonetta as sexist, might as well boycott comic books, magazines, tv etc. Everything in the media is basically one big sexist go at women.

And to that extent to you can pretty much boycott all male characters. Most are in great shape, extremely witty, barely clothed and can do everything that needs to be done.

Agreed.

I agree that video games are sexist towards both men and women. The big difference is that as a man it will most likely never affect your life, career, etc.

And small amounts of it I can overlook, I was asking because it looks like the game is founded on two principles : fighting things, and how sexual they can make the main character.

What the heck happened to this thread?

The gameplay is amazing. That's all that matters. Go download the demo.

This worries me greatly. Madworld was also fantastic and I feel like I was the only person here who bought the game. Platinum Games deserves a hell of a lot more respect.

I bought Madworld as well, this game will bomb hard, and it has nothing to do with the company.

Anyhow, here is a video of the costumes she can wear, some of them... are a bit revealing.

Having been out of the video game world for quite a while (apart from a long stint with NBA 2k10), I decided to play the demo to see what I've been missing...and is this all?

Was not impressed at all. Felt like a straight up button masher, despite the combo system, and the main character's design is pretty horrendous imo. Those outfits dont even compliment her skin tone...:(

I did download the demo, it causes my xbox to freeze when I try to load it up. :P

I wouldn't make one game color your judgement, if anything this game is the exception not the rule.

Hell its not even made on the Unreal engine.

Though I guess I did recommend it, but I do love me some beat em ups.

And will eventually get this.

Though poses an interesting question, what one game should we show Acebot to show him what he has missed?

That's a sexist view in itself? Basically saying men are better than women because they wont be affected?

Saying that wont affect a man is basically societal conditioning. Of course it affects guys, just thanks to societal conditioning guys are a hell of a lot less likely to talk about it.

Guys basically have the same self-image problem as girls do. Males developing eating disorders and other self-image type scenarios is starting to be a big deal.

Onto the game.

Since when is being overtly sexual also being sexist? I mean I realize that most people think it's cool for a guy to sleep with any woman/man that walks by but if a woman did the same she's labeled a whore. However I believe as sexual beings neither are whores and they're just doing what our species longs to do, procreate to survive. Sex is fun, lots of people enjoy it, and if they want to express their enjoyment more power. If they want to have some fun with it, go them. If a game wants to have a female lead (Which is rare in itself), who is a sexual being... Go get em Bayonetta. To explain further technically she is a witch, and in Wicca and Pagan beliefs sex is a powerful thing and very important.

To be really honest there hasn't been too much sexual stuff in the game, and it actually is shaping up to have a decent story.

The point is I don't think you should miss out on this game because you think it's sexist. There are better ways to protest the objectification of women than to not play a video game.
