Do you miss any of these?

The Arcades:

With online game play nowadays, there's not that much reason anymore to go to the arcades. However, online gaming still can't compare to being in an actual place with lots of people who share the same hobby. For once, people are much more nicer face-to-face than they are online (and for some obvious reasons too :rambo: :minigun: ). And you normally kept in touch with the people who were there often one way or another.

CD Jewel Cases: OK, so there's things to like about these and things to hate. They tend to break rather easily. But they were more compact than the dvd-sized cases we get now and I was able to keep way more games in less space.

FPS's being one small part of the video game industry: I'm sorry, I like a good fps as much as any other person. My TF2 play times testify that. But back in the day there were some good fps's that you really liked and a bunch of adventure games, rpgs, action, puzzle, etc. etc. that had a good amount of good titles too. Now the fps's play a much larger role in video games, but the amount of games in the genre that stand out are about the same amount as back in the day when there weren't so many.

If you can think of any other thing that was done in the past but doesn't happen anymore and were good one way or another, feel free to add to the list.

I miss colored cartidges, I know didn't add much but enjoyed getting games in blue or red and Zelda in gold. It stood out.

I guess Mario is doing something with the red tin foil case.

Sadly we didn't have any arcades near where I lived growing up. :(

As far as I know there aren't any near where I live now either.

If you're interested, though, STRIDE (the gum) is sponsoring the Save the Arcades program:

I never went to an arcade. The only times I was really at one was when I was little on the ferry going to the Island, or at a movie theatre waiting for tickets to be bought.

What I miss, are long games. Games nowadays are really short. Me and my friend beat Halo 3, Bioshock, ODST (other games like that) the day we got them, in one sitting.

I like the cases the way they are now. The PS3 cases are mighty snazzy. I do miss cartridges though.

I don't know if games were longer or just more forgiven.

I mean most games like Sonic, Mario, Castlevania and stuff weren't that long. It tended to be the RPGs and stuff. More made up length by either forcing you to beat in one sitting or having insanely difficult encounters.

I don't miss the arcades because I don't think we ever had them. Never been into one.

The though of someone having never been to an Arcade completley blows my mind. Our local mall used to have one called Alladin's Castle...

Many a times I would spend hours in there while my mom shopped...

The closest arcade to us is in Nashville, TN. Game Galaxy. It's owned by Jason Wilson who was one of the top players in the world during Street Fighter II hayday. It was one of the first arcades in the nation to get BlazBlue. About an 3 hour drive from lexington, maybe less.
