Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
I know it's a lot to take in since it's not subtitled or anything, but I'll agree with BaB when he says Square Enix is going crazy.
Considering the fact that I can't tell if this is all pre-rendered or not, and that it actually looks enjoyable with the gameplay shots...this might not be bad. Not bad at all. |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
Yeah, I am not a huge fan of Final Fantasy, but this one just seems so out there, that may have to check it out.
One part where fighting a bike... then another when someone uses a car as his summon/special/attack, not even sure. |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
I don't understand how making a beautiful, enjoyable-looking game makes them crazy.

It's an interesting step, and probably a good one since it looks enjoyable like you said. Does anyone doubt that this will look as good for the 360? I just don't know since I can't tell what's pre-rendered or not. |

Can't wait. Can't wait. Can't wait.

Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
I can wait.. I don't like how sappy the trailer is, but to each his own.
I really enjoyed FFIX because there was next to no romance. See: FFXIII for a bad example of romance. |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
Always excited for a new Final Fantasy. I'll admit the transforming shit is bizarre looking, though. I mean it's one thing to ride a transformed horse like one of them, that's kinda neat, but a hotrod and a motorcycle? Bizarre, I don't know. I guess one of the themes is about nature being fused with human technology or something. I hope we don't get some bullshit lecture about how nature is good and industry is bad, yadda yadda.
Other than that, game looks beautiful, battle system looks badass, and I heard whispers of the old-school world map making a return. Very excited. Quote:

Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
To be honest I think this is their harkening towards the people that were nuts about FF7 because they strayed away from the technologically advanced dystopia in the more recent games. The closest they got to that was Zanarkand in FFX and you were only there in the beginning and the end.
I think this could be big. I think FF12 was fun for a while but it got dull and it was downright hard with the skill advancement and Gambit system. Maybe we'll see improvements? |

Also this game looks awesome, I really hope it's the final fantasy that brings back everything I loved about final fantasy. |

Anyway I think the game looks very nice right now, almost a guarantee I'll pick this one up. |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
Battle system looks similiar to FFXII.
I had some fun with that one |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
It doesn't just look like FFXII. In fact I don't really think it looks anything like it.
The Final Fantasy games go in stages. The early ones (SNES) were more medieval and magical. 7-8 were semi-technological. 9-10 were fantasy with no technology. 12 was medieval. 13 is back to technology. |
Re: Square Enix goes insane with Final Fantasy XIII
Well it was Sakaguchi who wanted to do more technological FF titles (he's the creator of the series, by the way, Lost Odyssey too) He started it with 6, more with 7, and 8 was apparently his favorite, also the last one he was really involved with. Then 9, 10, 11, 12 were kind of blends of both medieval and technological. 13 is by far the most technological they've gone with the series, it would appear. I fully expect a more "medieval" setting for 15.
