Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09

It isn't official from Nintendo's mouth, but thus far 3 major retailers are listing the Wii for dropping 50 bucks to 199.99 in the coming weeks.

Does this make it any more compelling to folks here?

Is Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 worth $250 CAD? Hmmm.

I can't say I would buy one yet, mostly because I have access to one anyway. Really just waiting for that Zelda game, I suppose.

Not cheap enough yet for me.

For that inferior machine they should be giving us money to play it.

Does anyone know Nintendo's margin on the Wii? I would assume $125-150.

A $150 price tag might make me consider buying it.

Same, $150 or less and I'd probably buy it. (Or used $130 or less)

I used to have hard fillings for the Wii but I love it now. :)

Not gonna tell a person their taste, but will say that the Wii does house more than 2 games.. or 3 franchises.

On a personal level, I think the console would be worth it alone for Mario Galaxy and the Metroid Prime Trilogy is a truly awesome deal.

I would point out some stuff, but I know what type of TV you game on, and really the Wii wouldn't look bad on it....

I don't get how this relates to buying the console, but almost certain Nintendo's price margin on the console was that large.

If you factor in the fact giving away a game, and the controller tech, free wifi, on-board memory. It is a lot more expensive than just Gamecube tech as most people assume, but alas.

Eh its a tough crowd.

And I guess this won't be a surprise to anyone, I thought the Wii was a good deal at 250, and the library has only gotten stronger since the 3 years its been out. So I believe 200 is a fair price, but value is subjective.

Actually I just got a brand new 40 inch HDTV yesterday so the Wii would look like crap on it now, especially after playing the amazing games I already have.

Well first, welcome to the official HDTV fanclub, we are a small group here, but expanding ever so slightly.

And second, it won't look like crap, it just won't look as well. I have my Wii hooked up to the same TV as my 360 and Ps3 and my eyes don't bleed.

Though, I will say... investing in a Ps3 wouldn't be a half bad idea, except you don't really watch movies so nevermind that.

I bet it will help the Wii to keep its momentum.

I figured they'd try new colors first...

Giving away a game isn't as expensive as you think. I would assume that it wasn't more than a dollar per game to create Wii sports and give it away. All the hardware I'm assuming wasn't that expensive either, though I don't know about the remote tech and stuff. I just don't think they spent more than 120-150 to make each console. So their profit was incredible for the last 2 years or so. They could indeed drop to 150 and be fine.

And for the love of video gaming, why aren't their any color choices for consoles in this gaming generation other than black and white for 360?

DSi already dropped 3 new colors since launch. Jesus Christ.

Wii Sports took money to develop. I'll agree that they've probably made up for that with the first 1 or 2 million sales, but... They could have sold the game separately like they did in Japan. Most people would have gladly paid €50 for Wii Sports. So in a way it does cost them money.

As for the other tech... I don't think the Wiimote is that more expensive than the Cubetroller. I have no idea about WiFi, and I can't imagine the flash memory costing much.

Considering that they were selling the Cube for €100 including game, I'd say your €120-150 estimate is about right.

Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?

I remember reading an article that when the Wii was released (RELEASED) the cost of making a Wii was something like $230 or so. The reason it was a big deal was because Nintendo was the only company actually MAKING money off console sales opposed to Microsoft and SONY who were losing $100 or so for each console sale.
