Snow Leopard Out Today

I think we only have a few Mac users left with the loss of GM, but who purchased Snow Leopard today?

I'm upgrading right now. :)

I did. Quite satisfied so far, I'll post more impressions later. But I already pretty much knew what the OS was all about so it's really just playing with what I'm already familiar with.

It's funny, I installed it and when it finished, I couldn't notice a single difference. Not sure if that's good or bad. I'm actually glad they did a lot of work under the hood, but it's still quite surprising.

I did notice there is a new dock preference to minimize into the app icon, which I think is really sweet. Not sure if it's going to drive me crazy or not, but so far I like the idea. Also like the new QuickTime look a lot more than I thought I would, despite it breaking Apple's own UI guidelines.

However, what I'm most impressed by is the screen recording in QuickTime. Is it a big feature? Not at all. However, I can't believe with everything else, this hasn't been a default feature. I don't know if I'll ever use it, but I like having it there for me (and free) for when I want it. Also gives the ability to do audio with the screen recording (seems obvious), so there's no need to sync anything up.

I was thinking, hey, that's pretty cheap, but then I realized it only supports Intel macs.

It's ok, I've found no faults with Leopard on PowerPC anyways.

Im thinking about it, but is it really worth it?
What new things does it offer me?
How much does it cost?
And how much better is it than Leopard?

And more importantly, will it get me any closer to being able to play Half-Life?

It costs $29. So is it worth it? Yes.

From a user experience, it offers very little. However, sometimes the most important upgrades are the ones that are underneath the hood, which Leopard certainly is.

$30 dollars for an OS...I'm tempted to buy it and I don't even have a Mac.

I'm impressed with how much space the update freed up. I was at 54 GB and I jumped to 67 GB after updating.

I was impressed by that as well. What I've liked best so far (from a total end-user perspective), is simply how much faster everything seems to be: application start ups, internet browsing, turn on, and shut down.
