What Ever Happened to "Quality over Quantity"?
I'm probably one of the biggest Nintendo fans on these boards so it may not shock you that I follow news from time to time and was reading an interview on IGN with this little nugget,

But the Wii released almost 100 more games than the other two. And roughly off the top of my hand, I could MAYBE think about a dozen or two that were note-worthy even if a bit niche. And maybe another 2 dozen or so of the usual suspects like ports or sports games and stuff. So what the hell is the other 200 games? I've seen some truly truly awful and uninspired games at gamestop and stuff, but really like 200 of those exist? I know Nintendo once got in trouble for being too selective, but maybe they should tighten the reigns just a little bit. |
Re: What Ever Happened to "Quality over Quantity"?
I'm not surprised, with crap like Iron Chef America Wii out there. Ugh.
And all 200 of those probably account for very little motion control (and mostly screen-pointing.) The problem is that the 3rd party developers are all over it, but they're not doing anything decent with their freedom. |
Re: What Ever Happened to "Quality over Quantity"?
Quality over quantity is only a phrase used by those without quantity. Now the Wii has it, so the roles need to be reversed. It's called marketing, notice they played the numbers game and not how many actually did well.
The bigger question is, should Nintendo regulate the quality of games that come out on their console? Sure games need to pass certification, but I haven't heard of a certification that grades gameplay. |
Re: What Ever Happened to "Quality over Quantity"?
I often feel sorry for the people who buy all those terrible games. Even as a kid I mostly played high quality games. I'm trying to 'protect' my sisters from bad DS games, so far I've done a decent job. But a few weeks ago they really wanted to buy Lost in Blue (used copy) and I couldn't stop them.
You'd expect that with more games will also come more quality games. |

Reviews say it is a bit flawed, with many annoyances. The sequels seem to only get worse.
But they've been playing it ever since, so I guess it's not as bad as I feared (and the 6.something reviews want to make believe). |
