My 360 anyways. Started up my 360 tonight after I got home from school, only to find a disc read error. Tried multiple discs, letting it sit, unplugging all my peripherals, etc. nothing.

Customer support stopped about 12 minutes ago, have to wait till later to phone some Slumdog Millionaire guy in India.

Since the Red Ring of Death is so prevalent, you're pretty much guaranteed free replacement or repair, right?

well its not a red ring issue, its a disc reading issue.

It spins but just says "Open Tray" as if nothing was in there.

My PS3 stopped reading discs.
All I did was call Sony in California, they sent me a box with labels etc, emailed me a form, and I Just have to ship it to Coquitlam to get it fixed.

For your sake, I hope it works out the same.

Sounds like the laser is out of alignment or maybe dirty.

Either way, it's a pain to have to ship it out and wait for it. But I guess it's better than nothing.

Finally had time to call them.

They want $119 for the shipping, and repairs and another warranty because the 1 year warranty is up.

FML

Thinking I may just buy a cheap arcade version. I would get another console, controller, warranty, cables, and some crappy arcade games and memory card for $199

Plus i wouldnt have to wait like 40 days

Suggestions?

It won't take that long. It took mine 12 days or so, and I didn't pay a cent.

That's bullshit at how much they charge though.

My 360's were under warranty but they took a month to get back.
I'd say go for the arcade version. Or get an Elite.

Didn't Microsoft extend every warranty with 2 extra years a while back??

My friend's 360 also had the RRoD a while ago. At first he thought about trying that trick that's on the internet, then I asked him if he didn't have that extended warranty thing, then he decided to have a little fun by smashing the console.

I was asking if this was an american only thing as I remember it as well, but maybe it only covers RRoD?

And Cam is too honest to lie about it or something.

I am not sure how things work in the US but in England there is a company called Trading Standards. If there is a similar US version get in touch with them.

If this were my 360 this is what options I have.

In the UK all 360's have a 1 year warranty. BUT this is the retailers warranty. Microsofts Manufacturers Warranty is three years, but you dont always get told that. This is because it is the law here for such things to have a minimum expected life span.

For example if I bought a TV in Currys (A large electronics store) they will try to sell me extra warranty, this is their Retailers Warranty though and is all a con since a TV has a lawful manufacturers warranty of 3 - 5 years.

As for paying for shipping, well over here it would be illegall for a company to charge me for shipping for one of their own faulty products. This bill is their responsibility.

Basically what I am saying is, Dont Get Done contact your local trading standards office or citizens advice bureau (or similar) before you pay a single penny.

so if I wanted to send my 360 to repair, which my brother bought from england, they wouldn't charge us? :mischief:
