The Pursuit of Knowledge
For those of us finished with high school and who have their degrees, what are you learning now?
I've been out of school for 9 months and I feel like the blade is starting to turn dull. I've been reading book on programming in my spare time at work in order to satisfy the itching sensation that tells me to keep learning. Learning and self improvement should be a life long venture, and not something that finishes when you're finished with school. Infact, I believe that the real learning starts when you finish school because you then have the opportunity to learn what you want to learn. There's no schedule or hounding teacher or instructor. You learn what you want, however you want, and stop learning it if it doesn't interest you. I signed up for some courses in PHP programming yesterday. How about you, what have you been learning lately? |

Re: The Pursuit of Knowledge
Almost Done with my History Major but I decided to pick up a Minor in Afro-American Studies which will keep me busy for a few more quarters. Then I'm off to Law School to focus on Sports or Entertainment Law.
It's funny, not funny ha ha but funny peculiar, that this thread was made when it was, because I've been thinking lately about all the things I am constantly learning about, and enjoying at the same time, that are totally separate from school. The thing is though, all this ancillary knowledge has definitely helped me more in my present work reality and will prove very beneficial to my career path in the future. TED.com is my favorite thing in the world, and the fact that this years conference is happening an hours drive away from me is kinda of agitating, but I'm not gonna cry about it. Hearing the worlds most intelligent and creative speakers talk about what they love inspires me to not only learn more about what it is they speak of, but to find out what it is that I love...and that seems to be a combination of technology, media, and egos = sports and entertainment. So I read tech blogs constantly to get my fix, watch TED.com and subscribe to the HBS Youtube Channel to broaden my knowledge in hopes of increasing my networking abilities, and go on informational interviews to Agencies and Sports Franchises to get their input on what that life is really like. Which reminds me, I've got to get ready for one with CAA today. ps: I've also been reading up a lot on photography as a result of buying myself a dslr this past holiday season. Wish I had more time to play with it though. |

Theres more which sets me up for all jobs in the field basically.
That is just this term. Also have bindery, accounting, image manipulation and creation, web printing, digital printing, e commerce, and some other stuff cant think of. Basically a sample of everything, theres also a term long project where my group develops 5 items for a client. In addition i have work placements to build contacts and get a sense of the real workplace. |
Re: The Pursuit of Knowledge
I stopped going to college when the Spinto Band started touring often. I have 1.5 years left at my old school. I'd like to get that down to one solid year by getting some credits somewhere else and then finishing up the year straight through.
Honestly, if I get it done by the time I'm 30 I'll be pleased. It just kind of depends on the direction of the band. |
