WiiWare: A Recap (if you will)

When I first heard that WiiWare was going to be the new addition to the Wii Shop channel, I was excited! After seeing how many interesting and exclusive titles that the PlaystationNetwork store and Xbox Live Arcade had to offer, I'm sure there would be plenty of more titles to enhance my Wii experience; the big 40-50 dollar titles that were catching my attention were few and far inbetween.

I actually believed the first few weeks to show a lot of promise for WiiWare.

Lost Winds, although short, is a great game, and definitely better than most of the throwaway 50 dollar titles out for Wii.

I never actually purchased Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, but I heard it was also very well done, and decently priced at 1500 Wii points ($15 USD).

Dr. Mario Online is actually a lot of fun, and nostalgic, as I haven't played Dr. Mario since I owned a cart for the original Game Boy, and I highly enjoyed that.

But recently, most titles have been throwaways now too. With games like SPOGS Racing and the interesting looking, but mediocre Gyrostar, we need to hope that there are a lot more spot on titles like the aforementioned soon!

Animales de la Muerte looks interesting, Mega Man 9 of course deserves a mention among this thread, and World of Goo looks amazing, if not only for the great physics engine that was created for the title.

After that, what else can we wait for?

Post some ideas on new games that you think should be made for WiiWare, your opinions on any titles that are coming soon, and opinions on WiiWare titles that you presently own.

I'll start with thinking that the Wii should be more than capable of handing a version of Rez for the Wii. I also think that Geometry Wars Galaxies could have been a WiiWare title as well if it had come out after WiiWare was introduced.

LIT
Shantae
Strong Bad
Tetris Party

Superstar Soldier R was a good game, but it was a goddamn tease. :( I want more than 5 minutes of story mode. I KNOW they can do it. They have the engine now. I hope they're working on something because I love the hell out of that gameplay.

Ok the 3 of us can't be the only ones interested in Wii Ware?

There are some pretty interesting games coming down the pipe. The problem is the VC also remains a very viable option for Nintendo so you end up with weeks of like one and one which makes the roll-out extremely slow on both services.

But stuff like Tetris Party and Bomberman should make for some fun times especially since online.

For sure. I'd have to say about Dyne and Super Star Solider R, that I was reading and it seems like you get a much better deal out of the original that was released on the VC, because you get complete games, although you lose leaderboards, but I'm sure that's something that people can be willing to look over.

I bought Lost Winds. Didn't finish it, I got stuck somewhere.
I'll definately buy another WW game, if there's a good one.

Dr. Mario Online Rx is good, I think.

The original sucks, Blazing Lasers and Soldier Blade are much, much better games.

(Yeah I kind of bought them all as they came out. :D)

You should totally pick up Soldier Blade - definitely the best game in the series. :D

Wii ware needs to allow for demos. I'm already spoiled by my 360 and allowing me to actually try out games before buying. And if I really like the game, I do actually buy!

There is a demo system on Dr. Mario. People who buy the full game can send out fully-functioning multiplayer demos. :)

Pff don't get me started on that. I received the demo. Added 4 people who have the full game. It's 2 months later and I still haven't played a single game.

Just say when you want to play. It's not as deep as Xbox Live with the invite system and everything.

Re: WiiWare: A Recap (if you will)

I don't know anything about it so uninformed opinion HO!

But the ONLY good demo system is where I go online, want to try out a game, download a demo, and play. I shouldn't have to know someone who who has bought the game. A demo shouldn't be an exclusive club, a demo should be giving me the reason to join. How am I going to know I want to spend $15 on some Square game without a taste? Hell, I demoed Uno (and how many versions of that game could there be) before I actually purchased it.
