Which Donkey Kong?
 

So today after work I'm going to go pick up Wii classic controller, and later tonight I plan on buying one of the SNES Donkey Kongs. I never owned a SNES, so I feel like I really missed out on a great era of games, and the virtual console is a chance to catch up.

However, I have no idea which Donkey Kong is considered "the best". All three are available on the Wii Shop, and for the same price, so it doesn't matter to me which one I get, I would just like some recommendations.

I would also prefer if you didn't base your opinion off of nostalgia, maybe you owned the first Donkey Kong country as a kid and played it all the time; that's great but it won't make it any more enjoyable for me, I just want to know which one is the best game.

I would avoid them.
They really haven't aged that well.

But I think most people prefer the 2nd one.

Me personal favorite was 3 when I played it. I liked the little adventure-game elements sprinkled in, and the wide spaces (map areas) to explore. However, the general opinion is that 3 was the worst one.

If you don't want to listen to me, then definitely buy 2. It's very close to 2 (in my opinion). And the levels are great.

I got it for my birthday one year and I took a break from playing the summer after. It is an incredible game. I've replayed it countless times. And I've played Coop mode with friends.

I think DKC1 is shorter and better as a first-experience kind of thing. DKC2 is the grandmaster and one of my favourite games. DKC3 I couldn't really enjoy as much.

I replayed DKC2 recently and it still holds up. Especially fun is unlocking the Lost World after you've "beaten" the game. And the music is fantastic.

If you want a SNES game get Super Metroid. It's amazing, probably the best metroid I have ever played.

I would get both DKC 1 and 2, avoid 3.

picking between 1 and 2 is very hard for me, i owned 2 as a kid, my best friend owned 1, so i pretty much got to play them both a shitload.

Maybe if you could play as donkey on 2 it would own.... maybe thats why i didnt like 3, no donkey OR diddy.

Now I'm torn between DK2 and Super Metroid. :(

Sort of leaning towards Metroid, since I have Super Mario Bros 3, and Metroid would be very different from that.

Nah dude, DKC2 all the way. I have Super Metroid too. I think DKC2 aged better, but I still think you should play SM after.

Bah, Super Metroid is pretty much perfection embodied, up there with Ocarina of Time in my book. If you like 2-d metroids at all you need to get Super Metroid.

Though I haven't ever played Donkey Kong, so I can't really compare the two.

I only played Donkey Kong 1 and it's still great. My sisters still play that game regularily. Don't listen to BaB, they aged really well in my opinion.

But yeah, go with Super Metroid. Such an amazing game... I first played it half-way through the N64 life cycle and I still thought it was one of the best games I had played.

I think 2 was my favorite when I was a wee child...
Never even played 3 though...
