"What I'm Sick Of"

Rant, complain, and rip it to the constants in video games that you absolutely hate.

For me, it's one thing.
Radar in FPS games.
I hate it.
It's good for scoping around dark alleys and such, but at the same time, it takes away from the realism, because you just find yourself watching the radar for enemies, and where paths are.

I say, if FPS games want realism, remove the radar. Nothing else. It would be more intense if nobody had radar. There would be no "Ah Shit's", and no more "Fuck, I didn't-see-him-right-in-front-of-me's".

I feel, it would make war games, feel more like war - and less like games. The less time you focus on the radar, the more time you focus on the image, the noise, and the ambiance.

I'm sure we will get Cam in here soon telling you about his love of hardcore mode in CoD 4.

I welcome our radar overlords personally. Granted, its a double edge sword when playing against humans as they can use the radar against you.

Shameless self-promotion. ;)

I really can't think of anything.
Except the Metal Gear effect.

In which all the truly badass moments occur in cutscenes and you can't do anything similar to it at all in the game.

I don't like first person shooters that choose a stupid field of view. 90 degrees feels good. Everything else is a little off, and with some games, it makes it feel like I pressed the zoom button.

You should play Metal gear solid portable ops. More games should have "radar" or a sense meter like that one. I agree with you whole heartedly about pure radar that gives off a person's exact dot location on the map..

But sadly games can't really represent you're realistic senses. Like if you hear footsteps behing you in real life you'd turn around when you're in a gun fight, people shouldn't be able to fire off rounds at you or walk anywhere remotely close to you (with any speed anyway) and you not recognize it.

My problem with turning radar off in most games is someone could be lighting me up with a loud ass gun but me not recognize where it's coming from, in reality unless its a head shot you'll know. <.<

MGS portable Ops radar is based 100% in sound. There's no dots, just directions, where you can hear different levels of sound. Even when there's no enemies and the wind is just blowing you can see it on a radar thing that represents sound.

The cool thing is different soldiers you get, get diferent levels of awareness. And some can sneak and hide their sound better. Of course snake is the king of everyone in both regards in that game.

I know old thread, but was surfing through looking for something.

I loathe games that have extended intro sequences that you can't skip and much watch EVERY single time you start the game. I really didn't care to see it the first time!

Auto-jump for me personally doesn't work, I prefer being able to control where and when I jump. It's' the Mario nerd in me.

IKE!

Yeah auto jump is annoying, though the only games I've played with it were great... so I guess I can't complain too much...

You know what I'm sick of? I'm sick of that video game Ike. I only played it for one day but it still fucks up my life over a week and a half later.
