OSx86 Success (sort of)!
For those that don't know OSx86 is a patch for OS X (or an all out patched version of Mac OS X if you're a pirate) that has had the kernels modified to run on non-apple (yet still intel) hardware.
I tried it out with Tiger a few months ago and ended up selling my copy of Tiger because I couldn't get it to work. I decided to read up on it again and it's come a long way. I bought a copy of Leopard and am proudly booting OS 10.5.1 with no problems, system updates are working great. So I've got a tri-boot XP-Pro, OS X, and Ubuntu desktop (though OS X pretty much satisfies the needs Ubuntu had been filling, so I'll probably ditch it). Sorry for those of you who don't really care. But I'm psyched. |

What I gathered from you post is that African tribesman, Ubuntu, is now able to hunt Leopards and Oxen...

The only Oregon Trail game I ever played was the 92 version for the Mac. I want to buy an old mac just so I can play it again. |
Re: OSx86 Success (sort of)!
So you're saying I could load the new Apple OS onto any of my PCs? Is it simple to do? I'd love to try out Leopard on my computer, if I knew it was just a matter of several steps to make it work.

I prefer not to worry about driver issues and upgradability problems and seld-inflicted kernel panics, but glad you're happy.

But it works right now, and I'm content. @manasecret: It's not for the faint of heart or those unwilling to back up their hard drive and reformat with no guarantee of success. And I definitely wouldn't do it without a Core 2 Duo (AMD processors and single cores processors are all but impossible). Even then, many of the compatibility obstacles can be hard to overcome. I luckily built this PC with OSx86 in mind and bought a lot of semi-compatible hardware, but it can be done without that extra step. Realistically, it's more than a couple steps to make it work. |

I there is a kernel panic, does Orville Reddenbacher bust through the door with a shotgun to lay down the law?
Its like trying to read Korean... :D |
