GameTavern - The Thing Day 5

Blair sits in solitude, typing code into his computer. The events of that day wore heavily on his spirit but his disgruntled demeanor failed to show convey such heartbreak and fear.

Bennings, Clark, and the Doc were all dead. These were his friends. People he trusted. Now he could trust nobody.

His program is complete. He now uploads it.

Elsewhere Childs and MacReady storm through one of the base’s many hallways.

“Where are you taking me?”, MacReady asks.

“Alien hunting”

“What?”

“Those things rip through your clothes first, right?”

“Yeah”

“Well I found pajamas with Palmer’s name on them, tore up, bloody, and in the incinerator”

“We need to do this as a group”, MacReady argues.

“Yeah, and how many of the group are one of those things?”

“How do I know, you’re not one of them”

“Because an alien wouldn’t do what I’m about to do”

Blair’s computer screen lights up and little cells blip and beep around the screen. Several blue cells and one red cell. The blue cells represent dog cells. The red cell begins to take over and assimilate the blue cells. Then the red cell become a blue cell, carrying about its business until it takes over more blue cells.

Blair looked dismayed but he knew exactly what to do.

Childs and MacReady enters Palmer’s room. Childs is armed with a flamethrower while MacReady holds a fire extinguisher.

“What’s going on guys?”, asks Palmer.

Childs answers.

“We know you’re one of those things. What we want to know, is who else have you infected?”

“Man…what are you talking about? Childs, you know me. We’re best friends, man. What are you doing?”

Childs reveals the tattered pajamas.

Rather than protest, Palmer begins to convulse, and his side splits open into a mouth. Complete with a set of razor sharp teeth.

Blair is swinging an axe into all the nearby computer terminals.

“You bastards think I don’t know what’s going on!? I KNOW what’s going on. You’re not going to pull a fast on me!”

Several of the crew members come to see what the commotion is about.

“Blair!? What are you doing?”, shouts Fuchs.

Blair spins around and fires a revolver shot at the crew. The crew take cover immediately.

“Don’t you get it!? We all have to die! We can’t leave anybody alive!”

Blair fires a few more shots.

Childs lets loose with the flamethrower, burning Palmer to a crisp.

“We need to bury the dead aliens”, says MacReady, “I have a feeling I know how they work”

In the computer room, Blair is still raving like a lunatic.

Nauls and Norris pick up a nearby plank of wood, and rush into the room, directly towards Blair. Blair fires a shot at the wooden plank but he fails to harm anybody.

They hit Blair with the plank of wood hard, causing Blair to fall backwards, smashing his head on a computer terminal. A pool of blood grows around his head. He had failed.
