Wikipedia

I was wondering where most of you stand on Wikipedia? Specifically, if it is a credible source?

I was searching some facts behind the Duke rape case and stumbled upon the Wikipedia page, which I have uploaded. As you can see it stated, "... no doubt a typical nigger woman." It was promptly deleted less than minute after I viewed it. But it was still there.

Re: Wikipedia

Wikipedia is not credible enough to cite it as a reference in a paper. But I like to use it to get some background information on topics I find interesting.

That depends if you consider a random passer-by's opinion as a credible source also.

Re: Wikipedia

I love the idea that I can briefly change a Wikipedia article to suit my needs for quotation, and then cite it as a legitimate source.

By the way, did you know that gravity doesn't exist on the moon? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon

Re: Wikipedia

Wikipedia is good for getting decent casual background information, but as was stated, don't even think about using it for an official source for a paper or anything of the sort.

Re: Wikipedia

Wikipedia is a good collection of sources. Look at the links they use as references, and you can find some good information there

Re: Wikipedia

I think its a great source and would use it for citation in a heartbeat. **** what scholars say. The only reason teachers prohibit it is because its convenient and easy to access. They like students to bend over backwards to complete their ****ty assignments. Unfortunately for me, Wikipedia hadn't fully blossomed when I was in high school. I discovered it after I graduated.

For those unhappy with Wikipedia, the co-founder has created a new one called Citizendium which strives to use "gentle expert oversight" and require contributors to use their real names".

Re: Wikipedia

My thesis supervisor sees it almost as any other encyclopedia. Not that I use it (a lot) in my thesis...

Btw, is Gametavern on there? :p

Try using Google Scholar instead. You'll find actual journal articles are research there, and you'll be sure not to mistakenly cite a wiki that referes to people as ethnic slurs.

Hello Gamemaster.

Yeah Spinto Band is in my watchlist and I remember when that was put in. Hahaha. I wondered when anybody would find out.
