Legend of Zelda: Launch Title Status

http://www.gamedaily.com/features/?id=1135

Well the question raised here is one that is raised often and a good point.

Zelda has the name brand.
Zelda has the recognition and pedigree.
But Zelda is still essentially a port of the Cube version.

So does it make it a good launch title?

/shrug.

It'll be a Zelda game, it'll use the Wii controller effectively, and regardless of how 'next-gen' it is I think those two things alone will make it worthy of a purchase. I mean, I can bitch that I could have just gotten it on the Gamecube, but quite frankly there are new features and Nintendo could add new stuff with their online service at any time.

And regardless, I'm getting a Wii. So I might as well get my Zelda on it.

The way I see it, Its Zelda, and big wigs at Nintendo have been talking for a long time about its the best Zelda theyve ever done, how its going to "top Ocarina of Time" (which I personally doubt). Also, its been in development for over 3 and a half years, and when EAD has that much time and effort to put into a project...its going to be good. Very good. Anyways, Yes, I believe it will be a VERY good launch title. Will it eclipse the greatest game ever made? Anythings possible, but Im skeptical. Ocarina of time was perfect.

I'm not sold on how you could ever consider it a bad launch title.

It's going to deliver hours upon hours of good game goodness. I don't see how you can complain with that.

Should be a fine game...but it's been so long...and overhyped...and should have been released on GameCube a long time ago. I honestly don't care anymore. It does not feel like a real launch title. Just something shoved where it shouldn't have gone to help Nintendo sell more Wiis.

Whether it's a port or not should have no factor in whether it's a good launch title. It's success as a launch title is based upon the same factors every other launch title is graded upon. The article is just digging for dirt if you ask me.

I'll roll over laughing if it's just a graphically impressive wind waker, not that wind waker was a bad game, but it was in no way shape or form original and or challenging.

WW had a really fun fighting mechanism so I was quite happy when I heard TP used the same engine. But now with the Wiimote I'm not so sure. Suppose to be much more difficult though with dugeons galore. I remember hearing the E3 demo was dumbed down for the press.

It will be interesting to see if more people buy TP for the Cube or go out and buy a Wii and then get TP...

I would assume more for Wii for the simple fact.

a) it is a launch title
b) comes out like a month before Cube version
c) Cube version is only coming out in the States.

Though I can see a process where people buy both versions because of the different control methods. And as far as I know, Wii being a mirrored version of the Cube.. would make sort of like 2nd quest I guess.

I would be downright shocked if the Gamecube version sells anywhere NEAR what the Wii version sells. People have forgotten about the Gamecube. Hell, even Ive forgotten about the gamecube.

It's not too late! Baten Kaitos Origins is awesome. :(

*waits for this game and the new Dr.Dre CD*

I don't have a cube anymore, and doubt I'll be buying a Wii... but I'm sortalooking forward to this game. I'm definently not buying it the day it comes out, I can't think of a single game delayed THAT much that was worth it. Then again the only other game I can think of that had about the same scenario is Perfect Dark: Zero. Ended up decent, but nothing worth 3+ years.

I really don't like the idea of Nintendo taking Twilight Princess and putting it on N-Dub (Wii). To me, TP was GameCube's last hurrah (being exclusive), and now nothing's left since Baten Kaitos II has been released already, and Super Paper Mario has been pushed to Wii.

I wonder, is Tomb Raider: Legend still in development for GCN? It has a November launch date. Perhaps it also got put on N-Dub. If not, THAT is the last good game to be released for the system before it officially dies.

Will I buy Twilight Princess at launch? You bet your ass I will, and so will everyone else. Do agree with their strategy? No. I'd much rather have Super Mario Galaxy at launch, and a BRAND NEW Zelda for N-Dub a year or two later, like it normally is for every console they've done.
