Wii price at $299.99 USD
What we heard: Gamers slurping down Big Gulps, Big Bites, or other economy-sized junk food may have noticed something peculiar at their local 7-11. The convenience chain is giving away 711 Nintendo Wiis as part of a promotion with its Slurpee frozen drinks.
Checking out the contest's official rules and regulations is likely to induce gamers to do their own big gulp. In the list of prizes and their values, the site shows the Wii as having an ARV (approximate retail value) of $299.99, "November 1, 2006 through January 31, 2007 the following Instant Prizes will be available to be won: (711) Nintendo Wii, ARV: $299.99 USD ($399.99 CDN) each..." http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_bl...81&sid=6155289 ![]() |
Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
Well this can't be true.. Nintendo themselves said don't expect it to be higher than 250.

Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
That must be a mistake. Nintendo would not shoot themselves in the foot to make the Wii $300.

Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
Even if it is $300, that's not a big deal. I'll gladly shell out $300 for a Wii. And it's still less than the other two consoles.

Well of course they're going to want to exaggerate the prizes and their estimated cost, that's what makes you want to be in the contest more.

Wii's advantage was that is was supposed to be the cheaper alternative. I wouldn;t call $300 "cheaper" to the point that it would be a marketing advantage. Also, what do you think the 360 price w/HD is going to be by the time the Wii and PS3 are launched? I smell a price drop coming by that time. The Wii will still sell internationally, especially in Japan where it has a large loyal fanbase, but once again Nintendo doesn't really care to dominate the western market anymore. They are quite happy to be a niche third place, while profiting on each game not taking a beating on each console sold. Makes economic sense. Then again, this is if the $300 pp is accurate by launch time. If manufacturing costs drop by then I expect it to fall. |
Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
Let's see...
7-11 is holding a promotional contest. The idea of the contest is you might get a freebie if you drink a Big Gulp or eat a Big Bite which are food specialties of the chain. One of the freebies is supposedly a Wii. Is it in any way possible that 7-11 might have an incentive to exaggerate the value of a Wii in order to make it look like an even better prize? I'm just saying. |
Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
I agree with Xantar.
Buttt...if Nintendo is silly enough to charge 300, well then the Wii is going to have to make me toast. I'm just saying... |

I also agree with Dyne and would like my Wii to also make coffee with the toast.

Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
no chance the official pricepoint will be $299.99 (the CDN conversion rate is ridiculous too...33% extra?)
Im guessing US$249.99 and CDN$299.99...at the most |
Re: Wii price at $299.99 USD
I already stated in this thread...
