What does Wii sports mean

This is an interesting article on ign a week or so ago, i thought it would be interesting to discuss it with you guys.

For a start I think it would be cool if Wii sports was packed free with the Wii on launch, maybe even pre-loaded on the console (doubt that though). A collection of simple games that instantly present the concept of the Wii controller straight out of the box. Even better, if they were available for free online play, the popularity of the online service could be gauged very quickly.

But perhaps a bigger issue, does Wii sports represent a new line of games that would run alongside the conventional. Not just Nintendo developed games, but a different approach other develops could take on board. Not to replace conventional game design, but a range of simple game packages that would retail at a lower price. These don't have to just be sports games, they could focus on simple pick up and play multiplayer or arcade type games that you could enjoy playing again and again.

What do you guys think about this idea, and its implication for Wii's audience?

Packaged in would be great. Though for 4 or 5 of the simplistic sports titles, I wouldnt pay more then $20 for all of them on one disc or something. If its even worth a full $20.

Yeah, ya see, I think the Wii could've benefitted from a hard drive or something (it's only using some flash memory thing, right? I haven't been keeping up with all the specs). Games like Wii Sports are, in my opinion, not really full titles that I would see myself going to the store and buying. Smaller and more pick-up-and-play games like this would see a lot more success, I think, if they were offered as downloadable titles, which you could purchase individually off Nintendo's online store setup that they'll probably have for the Wii Connection thing.

Packaging one or two Wii Sports with the system would be a fantastic idea too. Or they could implement some kind of credit system like Microsoft has with Xbox Live and make it so that new Wii systems come with a few credits available to be spent when you buy the system, and then new users could purchase one of the Wii Sports off an online store for free, try that sh*t out, and then maybe purchase the rest of them. Or something.
