StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
StarCraft: Ghost Goes To Heaven?
Blizzard announces that it's moving next-gen, and that Ghost may not be coming with it. March 24, 2006 - Few games have had as many ups and downs as Blizzard's ambitious action gaiden to its famed StarCraft series, StarCraft: Ghost. In its unveiling at the Tokyo Game Show in 2002, the console-only game was the biggest news imaginable, a full new outing in a franchise that had not seen its deserved share of action in many years. Following that unveiling, however, the game saw numerous delays, and depending on what show you caught the game at, StarCraft: Ghost did not always impress media watchers in the glowing ways that a game of its stature might be expected to earn. While the title continued to improve, its extended development time had it competing with increasingly impressive new titles every year. The game also suffered setbacks in development, as its original coding team at Nihilistic was forced to leave the project behind when its contract was up due to other engagements. The game seemed as if it might get back on track when new developer Swinging Ape took over the project (and the focusing on just PS2 and Xbox, with the GameCube version officially cancelled), but of course, that was in July of 2004, and this is now March of 2006. And now, StarCraft: Ghost has hit yet another crossroad, as franchise creator and project overseer Blizzard has announced that it "will indefinitely postpone production" on the game as the company shifts its focus to new next-gen systems. The good news is that Blizzard hasn't yet given up the Ghost -- the company explains in its announcement that it is evaluating the potential of StarCraft: Ghost as a next-gen title, and indicates that if the game goes that route, it will utilize the additional console power for a more impressive game than was originally conceived. The bad news, of course, is that this leaves little chance of seeing the current-gen StarCraft: Ghost version continued to release, and it promises an even longer (or eternal, if worse comes to worst) wait for StarCraft fans. Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
From the beginning I didnt expect SC: Ghost to be a blockbuster'ish game. It may have been good but I dunno...its just not what people want. They want a true sequel.
Hopefully it gets picked back up and on a next-gen console(s) |
Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development

Worlds of Starcraft coming. like. what.

Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
Why don't they make another StarCraft for the PC? Isn't that what everyone would want anyway?

Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
I was looking forward to SC:G. :( Maybe not as much as a future SC2 though. A strategy game is a game you keep on playing..... Shooters have less replayability I guess.... unless the multiplayer is really good. =)

Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
I don't think I've ever seen a game with as many development problems as SC: Ghost.

There's sooooo much hype for Starcraft 2, and Blizzard hasn't even announced a sequel. And things with hype tend to suck. I mean, it's like they'd be doomed from the start. One nice thing about Blizzard is that they tend to make good games, and even though 3/4s of their crap gets delayed, it's usually good stuff. Warcraft 2 was revolutionary, and Starcraft took all the best elemnts of RTS and turned them into arguably the greatest strategy game ever. Blizzard has big shoes to fill, and with Warcraft 3 only a few years behind them, I doubt you will see a sequel to Starcraft for a while, if ever. |
Re: StarCraft: Ghost = Suspended Development
I love WarCraft 3. I still play it all the time. The multiplayer never stops being fun. It was really the first PC game I ever played, and what a wonderful game to start off with.

I also absolutely loved WC3. Maybe it wasn't revolutionary, but it was one of the greatest game I've ever played. :)

The original was more over rated the a bundle of sticks. Seriously, the progression of FPSs kinda went Doom > Half-Life > NOLF, although NOLF is arguable. Duke Nukem had some sweet graphics and a couple of cool ideas but it gets way too much credit. |
