Flashing the Bios

Just how much risk is involved with flashing the bios? I recently had my power supply fail on my computer, I put in a new one (in the process of failing it also fried my DVD rom drive, but I can still use my other drive for the time being) Anyways, since I put in a new power supply, a few things have sort of been acting up, and at one time I got some error message about updating the bios, but I have heard that is somewhat risky, that you computer might not ever boot from it or something? Is this true, is it really a big deal?

well, there are programs that do it automatically for you. can't remember any names off the top of my head.

but the risk is that if anything goes wrong while the bios are being updated, say the computer restarts or shuts off for some reason, you're pretty much screwed then. you would have to buy a new Motherboard, unless you physically reboot the bios, but that requires a special device which i don't think they sell in stores.

Yea, I believe I have a program that will do it automatically, MSI Liveupdate 3 is what it is, but im still slightly worried about doing it.

i flashed mine without any trouble.

just make sure ALL other programs are closed.

antivirus especially.

basically, make sure you close everything in your task bar, then update it...should be alright :)

just make sure its clear outside, no chance for anything to have computer turn off all of a sudden or whatever while flashing and your ok.

I've flashed my bios a few times (and dvd rom drive to a hack) and well...if you want a heart racer, flashing a bios is just that. You watch as its doing it going "Any fricken second, it will turn off and im screwed" heart...racing :p

I once flashed a notebook BIOS, that didn't even have a chance of shutting down but it still scared the hell out of me. I was also just following instructions, no program or anything. I was so stupid...
But it doesn't take that long, I'm sure everything will go fine.

Actually I think I fixed the problem so I dont think I will take the risk now, no point really.
