Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Well somehow and another, the plumber man has found himself with 3 unique styles of RPGS, only two current.
There is the original MArio RPG for the SNES, made by Square and Nintendo. The Paper Mario series, the current console incarnation. Developed by Intelligent Systems. Mario and Luigi series. The current handheld vrsion made by Alpha Dreams. Each series brings its own unique favor to the whole franchise. SMRPG.. bought along the whole fighting system and party system that included new characters as well as playable Peach and Bowser. Paper Mario introduced Badges and sidekicks and paper thin puzzles. Mario and Luigi well has you control two players at once as well as Bros Moves. Anyhow, this is a thread to see which is liked more and why. |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Well, the only one I really played was Super Mario RPG, and I loved it.

Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Super Mario RPG is just awesome. Paper Mario is terrible. I couldn't even force myself through the game. Mario and Luigi is mildly entertaining but I didn't finish it. It's way better than Paper Mario.

Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
I have never been able to beat SMRPG. I don't know why.
I've only just recently begun plaing Mario & Luigi for the DS, and I'm enjoying it. Never played either Paper Mario game. /me shrugs and walks away |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a timeless classic no game can compare to. Such memorable additions to the Mario Universe such as Mallow, Geno, and Booster helped along a brilliant storyline with multiple plot rotations, complimenting impeccable gameplay suited for all types of players - newer players to the RPG genre and peppered, experienced players looking for a much-needed square/nintendo hybrid game. Not only does this game kick Kingdom Hearts' ass at the hybrid genre, it stands as a blistering beacon of when gaming was good and fruitful.
Paper Mario was ok. Mario and Luigi was funny. |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Didn't Super Mario RPG have like some weird level cap, where you couldn't go past like 65 or something.
I can't remember which game but there was one with an odd number like that |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
There was a cap at level 30, yeah.

Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
I loved Superstar Saga on the GBA, played through it twice. Never played it on the DS.
Currently playing SMRPG on an emulator, and I like it a lot. Never played a Paper Mario game. Thinking about playing it on an emulator after I've finished SMRPG. |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
I have not finished any of these three. But I think SuperStar Saga was my favorite.
I liked SMRPG but then my little brothers lost it. I hated Paper Mario. Played it for a while, have gone back to it a few times, and have never been able to play it for long because I just didn't enjoy it. I like Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. I've enjoyed playing it although I got stuck on a part a little while ago and have not gotten back to it to finish the game. |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
I have never played Super Mario RPG, so I cant comment on that, but I have played both Paper Marios and the Superstar Saga for GBA. I enjoyed all 3 games pretty much equally. They each have their strengths. I do want to get the one for the DS soon though.

Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
I guess that makes me the only Paper Mario fan. *Obviously it's a terrbile game, because most review sites have shot it down.*
Super Mario RPG is a classic game in the Mario saga, no doubt. So it's probably my favorite of the bunch. I haven't really played Mario and Luigi, I do plan to do that some day. And Paper Mario is awesome, I'm not sure why you all hate it. If you let the game progress a bit, it gets really fun, even if it isn't that hard. |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
Paper Mario wasn't that bad IMO. It had some funny moments and more than its share of fun gameplay.

Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
This thread doesnt even deserve to exist. It's no competition.
Why not just compare pong to playing actual table tennis? Super Mario RPG is possibly the best Mario game in existence, In my opinion. Because it did something most other Mario games didnt do: Give you new characters and a good storyline. Hell, I'll still play Mario RPG from time to time. And I've played the first Paper Mario, and I didnt think it sucked, but it was nothing special. It was basically "look at us, we can make a 3D game with 2D characters, arent we revolutionary!!?" So all in all, Mario RPG rapes both of these other games while also fellating their mothers. |

Quite frankly from the little I played, it seemed like an RPG first and it just so happened to have Mario characters in it. Mario was never intended to be an RPG so I think that is an insult to the creators as well as the series to be frank... Part of the reason it fails is because the new characters in my opinion doesn't exactly fit the mold of the mario universe. Granted at this point its a pretty damn big universe, but atleast the other games were nice enough to give you partners in pre-defined roles like Goombas, Yoshis, Ghosts and all that other stuff while still creating new characters or personalities. I think the Paper Mario games are better games simply because they acknowledge that they are Mario games. Sure they are RPGs but they also have tons of platforming, good dialogue and aren't afraid to poke fun of themselves. They are also longer games.. but eh... Just to make a point though to a degree it goes with all the RPGs... but how many of those "new" characters made re-appearances... |
Re: Super Mario RPG vs Paper Mario vs Mario and Luigi
The new characters might not have had a chance to make any more appearances because Square owned the rights to them.
But the Chancellor very well evolved into Toadsworth. |
