Sony could stand to lose just as much if they present at a competitive price. Though the lack of a HD and the switch to MPEG-2 could help.

Re: MS loses 150 on every 360 sold (nothing you didn't expect)
Once I read that the 360 runs on 3 high end processors, I knew that MS would be losing money on their new console.
I think their trying to offset losses by the pricing of their peripherals. Have you seen those prices? Holy crap! |

Re: MS loses 150 on every 360 sold (nothing you didn't expect)
Why didn't Microsoft just make the cost of their systems higher so as to avoid losing any money? I mean, come on people, this is America. You've heard about the sales on eBay. People would willingly pay $800 for the consoles if that's what they sold for.

They want more MS consoles in more houses, and they are willing to incur even more debt to do so. |
Re: MS loses 150 on every 360 sold (nothing you didn't expect)
Actually, if I remember correctly, the original Xbox lost $180 on every unit sold at the beginning. So if this figure is accurate, the Xbox 360 is some $30 more profitable than its predecessor.
