Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Go buy this game now. Why are you still reading this post. Get up. Get in your car/bus/subway/plane/racing gator and go to your nearest game store/electronics store/gamer pimp (they're rare but they do exist) and get this game. Just like Aria of Sorrow but even better. The collecting of souls has captivated me unlike anything else since Pokémon first hit the states. The use of the touchscreen is kind of annoying and I stick the stylus in my mouth before a boss battle to draw the magic seal but I deal with it. There's just so many areas to explore with such an indepth weapons system. Easily trounces any Metroid game out there. If a new 2D Metroid game ever comes out (though sadly the series seems stuck in 3D more so than ever) I would want this team making it. *Takes a deep breath* My studying and work are suffering because of this game. I have a midterm tomorrow but who the hell cares for there are souls to reap!

Oh great. I thought I could pass on this game..

Thanks a lot, Teuthida. Three midterm projects, and three games from hell to sin on. Fire Emblem, Shadow of the Collosus, and now Dawn of Sorrow.

Sigh.

My evil plan is working. *rubs hands together in an evil fashion..as opposed to a sexual one, though Teuth is told he is a gentle lover and the rubbing of hands could be a sign of great happines...but alas this rubbing of hands is evil*

Strange as it may be I'm comparing this game to Animal Crossing. You can literally spend hours upon hours doing mundane things (if you consider killing ghosts mundane...and you eventually will) and then once you get the little thing you were looking for you go onto another tasks and it never ends...there are always goodies waiting for you somewhere...whever it be trying to catch a certain rare fish or trying to reap a certain rare soul...hmmm now if only the new Animal Crossing allowed you to reap the souls of the villagers...

I would have started with Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.

I played it about a year back, it was really good. I'd give it a 9/10.

but hey, that one could kick major bootay!

EDIT: I just noticed, this is in "Handhelds" sorry for the stupid response.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was an awesome game.

It already came out? I miss these old school 2D Castlevania games ;[

Aria of Sorrow was great. I wish I had a DS now. haha.

I hate the artwork for the game though.

Hated the artwork for Aria of Sorrow? Thought was nice. Kinda pissed how Dawn of Sorrow went all mainstream anime-ish in style...although the intro movie is rather cool.

no, the art style for Dawn of Sorrow. The characters look stupid.. and like you said, mainstream anime-ish. I love the original Castlevania artist (whoever it is). Especially his work for Lament of Innocence.

Apparently Alucard is a playable character after you beat DoS.

Well, I must say im quite enjoying this game so far. Its nice to go back and play something that is new, yet feels old school like Castlevania. Im not very far into it yet, but I just might have become a Castlevania fan allready.

But better than any Metroid? Hardly.

Re: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Matter of opinion. ;) Hmm, Metroid could be better but I found this more fun. It's like some movies are really good but I'd rather watch Happy Gilmore ten times in a row than watch 12 Angry Men twice in the same decade.

I played all the Metroid games (minus Prime 2) but lost interest in all of them before finishing...well except for Metroid Fusion but it had so little replay value after I beat it that I sold it away. Four hours compared to DoS which is nearing 30 hours on the second mode.
