Final Fantasy VII Advent Children - First Impressions

Well I finally got a chance to see the movie and I have to say I am very much impressed. The CG effects, the story was true to Squaresoft style RPG gameplay. Everyone looks so futuristic compared to their PSX counterpart...the new outfits above all are all nice, and the women are much hotter... lol

What are yours guys first impressions? Also... mark spoilers if you do give them.

THE REVIEW:
All in all, this movie has to be the best movie I've seen based off of an RPG if I ever saw one. The effects, CG animation are all top notch and almost expected of Square Enix. The story was epic as it continued on from an epic storyline in itself. Seeing the story unfold, reliving the past and reuniting with your ever so powerful and victorious party members in real time brought goosebumps to my whole body. Final Fantasy fans will be pleased, and non final fantasy fans will treat themselves to a nice action flick.

Body movements in the CG animation in some normal situations can look jagged and choppy , but it all makes up for it when everyone begins to fight. As soon as a fight starts, the animation gets so fluid you think your watching a real movie. Watch out for the animation when for example Tifa is just walking, then watch as Cloud spins and twirls w/ dazzling sword play and solid movement... these are errors in animation that can be forgiven.

Final overview... great effects, great storyline, animation will be jagged at times, this movie is a definite MUST BUY or Download...

Sony's Score: 9.5/10

Eeeerm....how many movies based on RPGs have there been? Unless you're including anime, I can only think of one other. And even including anime, everybody agrees that all anime based on videogames basically suck. So although I know you didn't mean it, that was a pretty backhanded compliment.

Anyway, if you don't mind plot holes that the movie never bothers to explain or Cloud acting like a dense wad of angst, you can enjoy the movie. As Jerry Falwell said, non-fans can treat themselves to an action flick. That's all it was for me. As long as I didn't take anything seriously, I could laugh right along with the movie.

But I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it.

Why did you call Sony Jerry Falwell?

I don't get how he compares to that zealot.

...dense wad of angst. Hee hee.

Well, I think this thread may shed some light on that.

And yes, Cloud is a dense wad of angst. And Tifa is a babe who kicks ass...until the villain actually decides to try at which point Tifa is reduced to a helpless girl in distress for basically the rest of the movie. Very disappointing.

i loved this movie, i finally saw it with english subtitles at a friend's house last night, and man it was good! they even used all the swords from the game. it was all i could ever want from a movie that is a sequel to a game...well, almost. i would have liked them to explain a little more about everything. like where the 3 guys came fromfor example. maybe i just missed that part.

They said they came from Sephiroth's body of thoughts that still remained in the planet... which caused Geostigma.

i just hope it's success in Japan and hopefully in the US will spark some sense into Square..

"Gee... lets jump in the money pool and remake VII for PS3"

Oh well.... The movie was awesome in my opinion... Bahamut came out as I would have pictured him. Basically... EVERYONE looked like I had imagined if they were in next-gen visuals. The only I thought looked weird was Barret... but he always did to me... lol...

SPOILER

I also thought it was funny how he was always the one about to be killed by Bahamut. He'd be shootin, and about 3 times in the battle... he was about to get hit by something and someone saves him. hilarious stuff...

Nomura has stated that it would take 5 years with a 300 man team to recreate FF7 at the Tech Demo quality.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Advent Children - First Impressions

then why don't they get a 1500 man team and do it in 1 year? :p
